Bioeconomy and its implementation in the Greek energy roadmap Global Greek Influence

    • Technology

Maria Andrielou works with the Chemical Industry for over 10 years. Having a background in linguistics, became a communicator in cross-cultural and international relations led by her insensitivity to injustice. She was working for the European Chemical Industry Council in Brussels when she realised that everything around us and inside us is Chemistry, while communicating Bioeconomy to stakeholders, policymakers and the institutions. She has led the first-of-its-kind, in Greece, investment in large-scale production and biorefinery of microalgae biomass in Thessaloniki. Now, she is the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication of Plankton First S.A. (Nano Algae Solutions AG). Maria is also a member of the Greek Bioeconomy Forum, led by the private sector and the only platform in Greece and in the Greek language that promotes bioeconomy.

We discuss:

why bioeconomy is not high in the Greek energy policy and strategy agenda;
why research ideas as proof of concept need to go through the “valley of the death” before reaching the prototype stage and large- scale production;
that achieving a more sustainable world, is not about informing but also changing the mindset of the public;
no matter what young people study, to keep their eyes open and let themselves mesmerised from what life brings to them;
doing our best and leave our mark for a better future.
