How To Go From Good To Great

How To Go From Good To Great

Jeannette looks into the concept of moving from a good position to a great one, emphasising that good can often be the enemy of great. Drawing from the book "Good to Great" by Jim Collins, Jeannette shares eight key concepts that have been instrumental in her 30 years of business experience, and that have allowed her to make the move from good to great, and beyond to brilliance.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

Good is the enemy of great, as being in a comfortable position can hinder progress towards excellence.
Leadership requires humility, professional will, and a focus on driving sustained results while setting up successors.
Having the right people in the right roles, aligned with a shared purpose, is crucial for success.
Confronting the brutal facts of reality, both internally and externally, is essential for progress.
Achieving greatness involves a combination of passion, expertise, and financial drive, creating a sweet spot for success.

    BEST MOMENTS

"Leadership in any business is essential... Have a good look at how are you leading."

"The path to success starts by confronting the brutal facts of your reality... Let's not kid ourselves."

"The sweet spot is when you have these three elements interconnect... That is really where you've got the sweet spot."

"Transformation does not happen overnight... It takes time to get the momentum going."

Leadership on The Line - Get on The Balcony!

Jeannette discusses the concept of "balcony time" for leaders, emphasising the importance of stepping back from day-to-day operations to gain a strategic perspective. Drawing an analogy between being on the dance floor and standing on the balcony, she discusses the need for leaders to balance involvement in daily tasks with strategic thinking.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

Technical vs. Adaptive Challenges: It's crucial for leaders to distinguish between technical challenges with known solutions and adaptive challenges that require more radical changes.
Leaders should understand where their team members, stakeholders, and customers are to effectively address challenges and opportunities.
Leaders need to interpret the underlying messages and emotions behind what is being communicated to make informed decisions.

    BEST MOMENTS

"Being a leader is about making those difficult decisions, about seeing the bigger picture."

"You need to be constantly adjusting, on the dance floor dealing with day-to-day challenges, but also on the balcony observing from a macro perspective."

    ABOUT THE GUEST

At 49 years old, Grenade’s® Co- Founder and former Chief Marketing Officer, Juliet Barratt has had a fascinating career which has spanned education, charity and training, before succeeding in the world of marketing and sports nutrition, with the launch of market leading sports performance and active nutrition brand, Grenade®.
