How then, do the Macedonian believers, out of their extreme poverty, overflow with the wealth of generosity? It is just humanly hard to believe. They were really poor and persecuted because of their faith, in need, yet they gave generously, overflowing with joy, out of their extreme poverty.

Paul metaphorically describes his ministry and suffering as a treasure in jars of clay to magnify the power of God, which sustained his life and ministry. Also, for him, the future glory that outshines his present affliction through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
