7 Song Friday 6-7-24 or time travel with the TARDIS!

In which X7 talks about seven random songs, and begins an experiment about the podcast! These songs are from 1949 to 2024, possibly the widest range of music we have had on an episode. We did skip the 60s today though. Not on purpose! We could not resist using the thumbnail today, though.

King Kong Escapes from Dr. Who!

King Kong Escapes from Dr. Who!

In which X7 looks at the classic 1967 kaiju eiga (monster movie) King Kong Escapes. It is very loosely based on our previously reviewed King Kong Show. It is a fun adventure movie, with spies and double crosses and best of all, giant monsters!

The New Fantastic Four (improved? NOT)

The New Fantastic Four (improved? NOT)

In which X7 delivers what people of a certain vintage might call a "hot take" on a rather reviled cartoon- The New Fantastic Four from 1978. Someone should have realized replacing the Human Torch with a dopey robot was not going to make fans of the comic book love this cartoon. However, the animation is rather good (for the time frame) and Jack "The King" Kirby did the designs! Add to that decent scripts and good voice actors, it isn't that bad at all. Even HERBIE isn't awful, if you know what to expect.

    Choy Li Fut (1979)

    Choy Li Fut (1979)

In which X7 reveals his chosen martial art, some history of it and a movie which is a fair representation of the fighting style. Choy Li Fut is one of the most popular kung fu styles in the world, but it is not very well represented on the big or small screen. This is a good movie, and has a lot of the style in it. It has some other shenanigans as well, but overall it is a pretty fun movie.

    According to Bruce Lee:[6]

Choy Li Fut is the most effective system that I've seen for fighting more than one person. [It] is one of the most difficult styles to attack and defend against. Choy Li Fut is the only style [of kung fu] that traveled to Thailand to fight the Thai
    boxers and hadn't lost.

Aquaman Rules the Cartoons, or Action Under the Sea!

Aquaman Rules the Cartoons, or Action Under the Sea!

In which X7 makes the case for the how great Aquaman was to a kid in the mid-70s. And he is right about that! Filmation made 36 episodes about the King of the Sea and they thrilled kids for about ten years, until newer, sometimes lamer, cartoons edged the superheroes off television. Thankfully DVD has brought him and many others back to us!
