CBS Sports lists a team that not many would ever think of as a possible College Football Playoff contender this year from the B1G / Shut Up Sipple (sponsored by Bagels & Joe)
-Tom Fornelli was going through each conference’s teams to find a Cinderella for this year’s CFP, and he said…RUTGERS (!!!) for the B1G. As Bill has pointed out, Rutgers (and Indiana/Maryland) are the happiest right now of any teams in the conference now that divisions are gone
-Fornelli writes that the timing is right for a possible big leap for the Scarlet Knights…could you imagine?!

A look around college football shows that Nebraska did well in the transfer portal…how did they stack up with the rest of the B1G?
-CBS Sports did a deep dive into all Power 5 teams and broke down the portal classes with 4 categories: Net Rating Gain, Average Transfer Rating, Transfers In, and Transfers Out
-Nebraska was 3rd in the B1G (behind Ohio State and Purdue); with 7 transfers in and 9 transfers out. Some of the numbers were alarming…Purdue brought in 18 transfers while 29 transferred out; and even though Ohio State was 1st in the rankings, they brought in just 7 transfers while having 25 players leave
-Also, some Husker roster news: DB Ethan Nation is not on the roster as the team reported for June summer workouts

A brief watch of the UFL on Saturday made Jake think that maybe we don’t need football year round
-The UFL has been great for many players, including Adrian Martinez. The guys haven’t watched much UFL this year, but Jake caught 20 minutes of action on Saturday that was pretty telling
-In the conference championship, the Birmingham Stallions came back and beat the Michigan Panthers, 31-18, but in the 20 minutes in the 3rd quarter that Jake watched, there were 6 (!!!) combined turnovers

Does Nebraska have a possible first round draft pick on its roster this year? One Husker coach thinks so
-Sip and the Husker Online crew talked with Nebraska defensive line coach Terrance Knighton last week, and he said that while Jimari Butler is the voice of the D-line room, he thinks that senior DT Nash Hutmacher has a chance at being a first round pick in next year’s NFL Draft
-No projections out there indicate that so far in early 2025 mock drafts, but it’s quite a notion to think that is possible for Hutmacher, who proved his athletic ability with a successful wrestling season, too
-Also, Nebraska gets a commitment from 2025 3-star LB Pierce Mooberry (Millard North); committing to the Huskers over Iowa State, Minnesota and Kansas State…and Sip was at the QB camp on Saturday
