Ep. 1039: Blood Sweat Tears - Christine Reed
Christine is the founder of Rugged Outdoorswoman Publishing, whose first publication, Blood Sweat Tears, is a perfect example of the mission to promote the adventure stories of women and gender-expansive folks. Her award-winning debut memoir, Alone in Wonderland, shares the story of her personal transformation via thru-hiking. She has been forged by nature and movement, and she firmly believes in the power of story and representation to invite every body into the outdoors where we can see ourselves more clearly.
Blood Sweat Tears is a short story collection from 26 women+ hikers and runners about the experience of being in a female body on trail. This group of intrepid and vulnerable athletes/writers talk periods, boob sweat, and ugly crying. The trail is a place for healing, and can show us what we are made of---but it's always us doing the hard work.

After humble beginnings in the world of sports, Brian was introduced to summiting mountains, vast wilderness, and travel when he went to work at a summer camp in Colorado that changed his life forever. After that experience, as well as encouragement from his brother, he was eager to see more of the world. That’s when he took a solo trip to Central America just to experience the culture and scenery.
He was hooked!
Brian quickly began traveling all over the world, racking up visits to dozens of countries in a relatively short amount of time. It wasn’t long before the idea to visit every country in the world became his pursuit.
Today is the story of how Brian did just that. Well, every country except one...

Ep. 1037: The Beauty of Combining Adventure Sports - Jennifer Strong McConachie
Are you ready to Go Multisport? You can run, you can paddle, you can swim, you can ski, you can climb, you can train, and you can bike. But how can you combine them all together? For ultra-like distances and days at a time? How about climbing, hiking, and packrafting all in one day?
Beyond traditional 5Ks and 10Ks and single sport extreme and endurance events, is the newly evolving field of multisport. Multisport events are usually self-designed and determined. These extreme athletes most often create their own events because they are the first to do these human-powered endurance challenges.
Jennifer Strong McConachie is an ultrarunner, mountaineer, marathon swimmer, endurance paddler, multisport athlete, and alumni of the podcast. An Outward Bound graduate, she is also a Fellow in the Royal Geographical Society, Member of The Explorers Club, and author of Go Far and Go Multisport.

Ep. 1035: Ultra Running With Multiple Sclerosis - Matt Knaggs
Matt considered himself a casual runner, completing one or two half-marathons a year. He was raising a family, advancing his career, and staying healthy. His outlook on life was that it was chugging along, and Matt was content. As far as he was concerned, he “had it all figured out.”
However, as life often does, it threw Matt a tough curveball with what seemed like an unsolvable problem. His balance was off, he was constantly exhausted, and his vision was blurry.
After months of doctor appointments, ER visits, and no answers, Matt was left with a sense of bewilderment about the changes happening to him. After collapsing on a work trip and being rushed to the hospital by his work colleagues, he was finally diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and told he would be wheelchair-bound within five years.
Today, we’ll hear about Matt’s journey since the diagnosis, how he got back into running, and how he set his goals far beyond what he imagined before this life-altering news. This leads us to what’s next. Starting June 15th, Matt is planning to run from Lincoln, Nebraska, to Casey, Iowa, in an effort to raise awareness and funds for MS Run the US. You can follow along with his journey here on Instagram, and here to support: Mattruns4ms.com
