    On the season finale of Beautiful Garbage we reach a crossroads road for punk, as Kevin details the late 70’s period that split the genre into smaller sub-genres. In this episode, By Virtue of the Vicious, we’ll take a look at some of the most quintessential moments of the definitive era until it’s death on a 1978 evening in San Francisco. From the Sex Pistols destroying their new label’s office to The Slits tearing down both stylistic and gender norms in punk, we’ll examine the ins and outs of punk’s international revolution.
     
    In this episode, Kevin examines the impact of some of the most influential bands of the late 1970’s including The Buzzcocks, the Sex Pistols, and The Slits. You’ll hear about Malcolm McLaren’s ingenious marketing strategies for the Sex Pistols, as well as the Dead Boys’ rowdy revival of the early punk aesthetics of Iggy Pop and the Stooges.

    On episode 5 of Beautiful Garbage, Kevin dives into the dawn of the punk scene in England, tracing the origins of some of the most consequential bands in punk history.  From Dead To Worse weighs the impact that American punk rock had on what would become a sprawling punk scene in the UK.  From the Ramones 1976 4th of July concert in London to Malcolm McLaren’s unconventional method of assembling the Sex Pistols, we’ll examine the musical, cultural, and social conditions that allowed punk to reach the ears of frustrated teenagers across the pond.
     
    In this episode Kevin looks at the impact that The Ramones had on legendary artists such as Johnny Rotten, as well as McLaren’s manipulation of punk music through fashion.  We’ll hear about the social factors that made England the perfect home for the growth of an explosive punk scene, and you’ll hear archival commentary from some of the most impactful figures of the era.  As punk began to make its way across the ocean, new possibilities for the young genre began to erupt out of the pub rock scene, and you won’t want to miss how it all went down backstage- only on Beautiful Garbage.

    This episode contains archival audio interviews with some of the most important figures of the era including Richard Hell, as he details his hectic journey from Television to The Heartbreakers to Richard Hell and the Voidoids, all in under two years.  In addition, you’ll hear Malcolm McLaren talk about the inspiration behind a big risk that paid off; swapping lingering rock n’ roll fashion trends of the 50’s for studs, leather, and attitude.
