Genesis 37 introduces us to Joseph. His story begins with him boasting of dreams which only fuel resentment among his brothers. When Joseph is sent by his father to check on them, they see to it he never returns. Little do they know, God has big plans for Joseph.

God tells Jacob to go to Bethel and he obeys. With this new beginning comes great loss. Jacob’s beloved wife, Rachel, passes away. His father, Isaac, passes away. It's in this season of sorrow, another son is born.

Rather than settle where God was leading, Jacob leads his family to Shechem. Trouble starts soon after their arrival. His daughter is violated. Her brothers retaliate. It’s a gritty story yet there are lessons to be learned.
