Ep.44 | Artist Ice Wong on Hong Kong’s art education, glass blowing, jumping from a cabinet, and adopting sunflowers.
In this episode of 'The Last Supper - Art in Asia' I sat down with mixed media and performance artist Ice Wong. We began our conversation talking about her experience of studying art in Hong Kong, how she began with performance art, discussed what’s behind her recent work for Post-Human Narratives and the rapport she developed with sunflowers. Ice completed the conversation by explaining why she was jumping off a wooden cabinet and what other work she had planned for this year.
Ice WONG Kei Suet (b.1995) lives and works in Hong Kong. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts from the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University, in 2018. By examining her personal experience in time and space, she takes the interconnectedness of nature and man as her point of departure, working mainly with performance, installation, video and drawing. Her recent exhibitions include Post-Human Narratives— In the name of scientific witchery (Para Site, 2022), Noble Rot (Para Site, 2022), Per. Platform #3 (Eaton HK, 2022). In 2021-2022, she was awarded 2046 Fermentation + Fellowships granted by Para Site.
