    206: It Ain’t Just Genetics!

    206: It Ain’t Just Genetics!

Most of us have been affected by cancer in some form or fashion, whether personally or by association. A small percentage of cancer cases can be traced to genetics, but the lion’s share of cases have been associated with toxic overload and chronic inflammation. Today we discuss environmental toxins, toxins in the food supply, and emotional toxins to avoid to choose a healthier lifestyle.

Andrea Jones is a pediatric nurse turned health coach, mother of 2 and business owner. Andrea went from a conventional medical practice to supporting people holistically in a way that bridges the gap between doctors visits and achieving personal health goals.
Her own health crisis and the death of both of her parents to cancer opened her eyes to the need for a more holistic, preventative approach to health. For Andrea, that includes a heavy focus on nutrition, essential oils, and emotional and spiritual health practices that support the whole person.

When so many U.S. consumer products contain known carcinogens…when a stressful lifestyle is the norm of a culture…we can’t just sit back and expect others to look out for us. It is up to each of us to say no to the substances and lifestyles that knock our bodies out of balance. This episode is about empowering ourselves with information so we can make the choices to support health and life.

    205: Marin Hospital—Essential Oils for Pre-Surgery Patients

    205: Marin Hospital—Essential Oils for Pre-Surgery Patients

For patients about to undergo surgery, high anxiety before anesthesia translates to high anxiety after patients wake up…and consequently, more pain. Christine Castillo-Chavez and other nurses at Marin Hospital led a study to measure the effect of inhaling essential oils on anxiety levels in pre-operative patients, with surprising results.

Christine has been an operating room nurse, medical administrator, and a Surgical Technology department chair.  She has written award-winning college curriculum and work force manuals for the state of Texas, and currently manages Marin General Hospital’s Pre-Admission Center. Christine’s ultimate goal is seeking excellence in areas affecting the surgical patient. Christine feels every area that touches the surgical patient from sterile processing, preadmission nurse to the surgical and postsurgical team must seek the goal of cohesive communication in order to have positive patient outcomes.

Stress and anxiety don’t have to be the norm for patients…or for you. In numerous studies, essential oils have been shown to be anti-stress rockstars. Take matters into your own hands!

204: Emotional Healing with Davana, Neroli, Marjoram

Ancient healing modalities stress the link between the human emotional state and the physical state. Studies show that essential oils have a significant impact on the human limbic system, the “hard drive” of our brain. When we use essential oils to support healthy emotional health, we are also supporting our physical health. Today we discuss essential oils for emotional support with Leslie Moldenauer, owner of Lifeholistically LLC. She is, first and foremost, an aromatherapist with a practice firmly rooted in research and science, but she also believes that being a practitioner plays a large role in an aromatherapist’s toolbox. Leslie earned her Associate's degree in Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the American College of Healthcare Sciences, and has a passion for emotional and mental wellness.

Tune in to learn about some common and some not-so-common essential oil solutions for supporting emotional health under various circumstances.
