Sports InSights - Ben Simmons vs. Giannis
Is Giannis Antetokounmpo a more fundamentally skilled player than Ben Simmons ? This topic came up because we mentioned one of the recent videos of the “Club Shay Shay” podcast hosted by Shannon Sharpe. His guest was Gilbert Arenas. I did agree that he is not the most skilled player in the league...not by far. Even with his two back to back MVP awards. I went so far as to name the even lesser ranked players that Giannis is not more SKILLED THAN.
“Fundamentally, talent is something you are born with (e.g. being fast, extroverted, great hand-eye coordination, amazing voice), whereas a skill is something that can be taught (e.g. the law, customer service, how to code)” This is how I AM grading them
As an illustration: Shaquille O’Neal even on his BEST DAY was never accused of being an amazingly skilled basketball player. He POSSESSED SKILL but what made him a DOMINANT FORCE was his PHYSICAL GIFTS and TALENTS. Shaq WAS/IS not a more skilled player than many of his peers but the gap between his physical talents far exceeded those of his contemporaries. My argument is the same with Giannis. That his Ratio of skill v talent is very lopsided BUT due to his natural abilities he’s able to dominate. Giving us a modern day vision of Shaq during his time. Having more skill DOES NOT make you better.
A skilled player that is slow, short, unathletic won’t be able to compete with someone else that has some skill but is HIGHLY GIFTED PHYSICALLY
Giannis IS IN FACT BETTER THAN BEN.

In this episode we debated the Top 5 SG's of ALL-TIME.
Unanimously we all had Michael Jordan as #1 Then we went on to discuss Kobe Bryant as #2. We discussed the 6 rings for MJ and the scoring will of Kobe. We discussed Allen Iverson carrying the 2001 Sixers through the playoffs against the Toronto Raptors with Vince Carter and the Milwaukee Bucks along with Ray Allen. We discussed Dwayne Wade along with Reggie Miller and Jerry West with a few snubs along the way.
One of us also had a HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE James Harden take as well.

VERY EARLY NBA Playoff Predictions
In this episode we go over our early playoff predictions. Not everyone agrees on the battle for playoff positioning in the West. We debate who will make it between the Mavericks, Warriors, and Trailblazers.
With a lot of injuries and uncertainty hanging over the season it's going to be another difficult year for anyone competing this year. Let us know in the comment section who you think will be on the outside looking in.
