Keeping it Local Jacksonville Young Democrats

After almost a year hiatus, Keeping it Local is back and (we like to think) better than ever. In this episode, Millie Leeds (JYD Communications Director) and Linae Parkinson (JYD President) sit down with Florida's Commissioner of Agriculture, Nikki Fried, as they learn  what made Fried want to get in to politics and what it was like being the only Democrat on Ron Desantis' cabinet the past three years.

Our interview is with City councilman Garrett Dennis. He has been very supportive of JYD over years, oftentimes attending meetings and addressing our members’ questions about city council. We are grateful that he was able to once again take the time to speak with us. We covered topics including crime in Jacksonville, the investigation into the sale of JEA, and Councilman Dennis’s covid stimulus bill. 

Today’s interview is with Angie Nixon. She has been a community organizer for the past 10 years and is a former member of Jax Young Dems. Angie is running for State House District 14. We discuss her views on criminal justice reform, funding for schools, and her idea for a District 14 Advisory Committee.

Today’s interview is with Donna Deegan, a person likely familiar to you. She is a Jacksonville native, former television news anchor, and breast cancer awareness advocate. Donna is running for congress in District 4. We discuss her views on healthcare, partisanship, and the current Covid-19 times.

Our Interview today is with Ben Marcus; he is a first time candidate running for State House District 16. We cover a wide array of topics including money in politics, the education system, climate change, and reproductive health.
