What Goes In And What Comes Out
In this episode, we learned about how what goes in our bodies affects what comes out. In other words, we explored how what foods to eat affects our poop. We offered tips on how to stay hydrated (why? Listen to find out!) and we discussed medications with a little help from Nancy Glass-Quattrin, RN, BSN. Learn more at her website: https://www.encopresistreatment.com/
Discuss with your child after listening:
You might set up by having your child tell you things they can do to take care of their body (ex: brushing teeth, eating growing food, etc.) Then you can segway into taking care of their stomach. You can ask, "What eating habits can you incorporate into your life?" Talk to your child about drinking more water and about taking medication, and make sure they understand why they're doing it.
It has been summer for a few weeks now, which means I am officially a 7th grader! That being, I am on summer break just like you, and won't be coming out with any more episodes for a little while, but I still want to keep going, and I bet you want me to, too! You can keep Poopcast going with your marvelous ideas! Do you have questions about poop or suggestions for future episodes? Send them to me at poopcast@outlook.com! I look forward to seeing them!
Thanks so much to Andrea, Missy, Courtney, Sigal, Nance, Caleb, Andy, Debbie, and Nancy Glass-Quattrin for helping make Poopcast possible. I wouldn't have been able to have done ant of this without you all! -
The Basics In Your Body
Why do we get constipated? What causes diarrhea? How can you prevent encopresis? Nancy Glass-Quattrin, RN, BSN, helps us find out! Learn more on her website at https://www.encopresistreatment.com/
Learn the basics in this episode, then move onto the next ones to learn more!
Please forgive any audio disturbances, this was made by a 12-year-old.
PARENTS: talk to your kids about what you heard in the podcast! Here are some things to discuss:
Holding it - talk to your child about holding behavior and why they hold it at school. Brainstorm with your child and their teacher, ways to avoid holding it
Medication - I talk more about medicine in other episodes, but you know your kid best, and if you think they would benefit from medication, talk to their pediatrician. I am, by no means, a doctor.
To help better understand your child's constipation, or encopresis, ask them what symptoms they experience

Welcome To Poopcast!
Poopcast is made by a sixth grader named Rachel, who lives in Seattle. Poopcast was made because Rachel struggled with constipation and encopresis when she was younger, and now when she reflects on her experience, she knows the world needs to hear the voice of a kid who struggled with constipation, who talks about something as awkward as poop, and who wants to make kids' experience with constipation, encopresis, and diarrhea better than it was for her.
