In this section of John's Evangel, Jesus encounters a woman of Samaria in accordance with the Divine Prerogative. The climax of verses five through nine reveals not only the dichotomous relationship between the Jews and the Samaritans but also the dichotomy of the nation as a whole.

The ministry⎯and therefore the baptism⎯of John the Baptist is essentially distinct from the ministry⎯and therefore the Baptism⎯of Jesus the Christ, because Jesus is essentially Deity and concurrently the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Because of the deprivation of human nature, humanity⎯the created⎯needs an infusing of Deity (via the Baptism of the Holy Spirit) in order to be placed into right relationship with God⎯the Creator.
