A Conversation with Frank Deringer, frontman for The Jake Deringer Project
This week I am joined by Frank Deringer, frontman for The Jake Deringer Project! Frank discusses his experience playing an after-party with Jake Cinninger for the first time last February in Madison, WI. describing it as the greatest musical experience of his life. He takes us back to the beginning of his musical journey with his family band, starting as a drummer and then transitioning to guitar.
Frank explains the reason why they are named The Jake Deringer Project, even though no one in the band is named Jake. We discuss his musical influences, the fill-in drummers while Kris was away, Jake's drumming, and Frank's umphlove and fandom. He also gives us a sneak peek into the UM original they have planned to play on the 12th and talks about working on new material.
Frank gushes about the guys in JDP; keyboardist Logan Dier, drummer Brett Oemig, and bassist Dusty Padfield. He answers some fun rapid-fire questions, tells us what's on deck for the band, and much more. -
A Conversation with Polysanto
It's the 250th episode of Dropped Among This Crowd and this week I am joined by Luke, Mitch, Skylar, and Hartland from Denver, CO based band, Polysanto! We had such a blast in our conversation and boy did we talk about a lot! We get to know a little bit about each of the guys, and how they came together only 10 months ago.
A lot has happened in that short amount of time including a lineup change, being on the bill for Solshine Reverie's "On the Road" series at Cervantes, working on music with Mike Gantzer, and writing and preparing for recording their first album.
Hartland professes his Umphlove, sharing a hilarious story about sending Jake some hats and repping his favorite band proudly on the Spring 2024 cover of MTN Lifestyle Magazine. Mitch shares his connection to the very first time that "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" by Radiohead was played at sUMmer school back in 2012. They each elaborate more on their own journey with Umphrey’s music, the role it’s played in their lives individually, creatively as well as professionally. We talk about the significance of music in our lives and how the term “jam band” can be a turnoff and maybe using “improvisational music” could change some people's mindsets.
The guys fill us in on what’s on the calendar in 2024 including their first show in Fort Collins, CO, answer some fun rapid-fire questions, and much, much more!
