    Science Standpoint

Denise Pope a lecturer at Stanford University also proposed the idea that students have too much homework. He did some research and tests and concluded that “Too much homework can actually increase stress, have negative effects on personal life and sports. Duke University social psychologist Harris Cooper, Ph.D., one of the nation's leading homework researcher says that homework in high school helps verses I middle school it just stresses the child. He says that when you are in high school you should have a maximum of 2 hours of homework. Although too much homework is bad for you you should still have about 15 minutes plus studying. According to harris cooper, you should take your grade and multiply it by ten, that is how much homework we should have. If you spent over 2 hrs on homework in middle school scientists say that it negatively affects your life in many ways such as sleep, eyesight, and fun. Most kids are scared to ask questions because they don’t want their classmates to think that they are dumb. Since the last couple of years, they have noticed that the Stanford tests are starting to drop. According to most principles they say that learning should be fun but they have no idea how much homework students are getting.Dr. Cathy Vatterott, an education professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and author of Rethinking Homework: Best Practices That Support Diverse Needs has spent much of her career researching the research about homework. The findings, she told Fatherly, are unambiguous. “They really can’t prove any benefit in elementary school,” she says. Many students actually suffer from homework.
