Obesity & Related Chronic Diseases
Transcript:
Hello everyone! Welcome to my podcast. My name is Lindsey Gregory and today’s topic will be on obesity and related chronic diseases. Obesity is a health concern associated with having an excess amount of body fat. Obesity is not only a problem in just Saginaw County or Michigan, but it has become a major public health issue all over the country. About 40% of Saginaw County residents ages 20 or older are considered obese. There are many different causes that can contribute to it. The main cause is usually eating too much and not getting enough exercise to burn off that energy. Other factors can include genetics, environment, medication use, and sleep routines. People who are obese have an increased risk to develop many chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and so much more. You can treat and prevent obesity and related chronic diseases by changing your eating habits and physical activity levels now. Consume the right amount of grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy and meat every day. Be sure to participate in the right amount of physical activity each week. Obesity is a serious threat to Saginaw County but it can be managed! Thanks for listening to my podcast.
