To begin understanding what the New Testament says about heaven and hell it is important to understand the Parable of the Sower.  There are four types of hearts that react to the word of God: hard hearts that reject the word, shallow hearts with a superficial relationship, strangled hearts that are shut off and choked out by the things this world cares about, and open hearts.  Those with open hearts, who hear, who understand, keep studying the word, and keep trusting God are the ones who will bring forth fruit and make it into the kingdom of heaven.  VF-2219   Matthew 13:1-23

The devil wants our minds to be blinded to the reality of heaven to keep us from entering in.  But there is a clear picture in the prophecies of Daniel and others of what will happen in a future time and what occurs after death.  God has an everlasting kingdom, and we will stand before His throne in His presence and worship Him.  The dead will wake up from their temporary sleep, either to everlasting life or shame and contempt.  Our time here is preparation for eternity; all we have to do is trust Him. This message begins with teaching about the true time of Christ’s birth. It is not the birth of a child that makes us Christians, but the fact of His resurrection. We all die eventually, so we should want to know where we are going after death. Many people do not get excited about heaven because they do not have a picture in their mind of what it will look like, but the Bible does tell us what it will be like. The final chapters of Revelation describe new heavens and a new earth much like the earth was before the fall, restoring humankind to a sinless state and bringing us back into direct communion with God. If we faithe in Christ and want to be with Him, this picture should bring us joy, not doom and gloom. VF-2215
