Heather and Karina are both parents, and their age gap has provided them sufficient life experience to see the glowing gap in care provided to new mothers in our society. Meeting this need is unlikely to come through allopathic medicine and its myriad of resources because they argue - as do I - that a holistic approach is required. After working for years with women utilizing skills they have picked up in the life and health coaching industry, they then turned their attention to writing a book, “The Way Holistic”, to help new moms (and dads) work with their own stories to become better parents and raise charismatic, healthy kiddos. Dr. Kia and I met on social media, not the old-fashioned way. Interestingly, my experience with MFMs in my career was bittersweet. I valued their opinion and support in managing high-risk births, but their involvement almost always necessitated intervention by having gotten them involved. But Dr. Kia is different. What stood out to me was her advocacy for home birth. Yes, I’m just as shocked as you! This interview was longer than most because my online community fired dozens of questions that they hoped she would answer, and, in typical brilliant MFM fashion, she took them one by one in this frank, challenging conversation.

The FDA has rescinded its approval of mesh placed vaginally for uterovaginal prolapse, yet many gynecologists continue this practice, and it comes at the cost of many women’s long-term health. My guest in this episode is not a healthcare provider and had no interest in women’s health until he started hearing stories of women injured by these procedures. He then started litigating on their behalf and made some friends in high places along the way, including gynecologists, urogynecologists, and many other women’s health practitioners trying to right the ship of history towards healing prolapse and healing the women who bring life into the world. Unlike many attorneys, Adam seems to be very empathetic towards women as a consequence of a career highlighted by innumerable “wins” through the legislative process for women harmed by vaginally-placed mesh procedures for prolapse. This one is an awesome listen!
