Tinsel Tunes, Saint Nick and the Big F*ck Up, Advent Calendar House Castology

    • Performing Arts

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas podcasts! Ho, ho, ho fellow podcast lovers, it’s time to look under the tree and see what festive podcasts your Castologists have wrapped up for you this year. Nick goes behind the music with Tinsel Tunes; Liz combines her two favorite things (narrative podcasts and swear words) with Saint Nick and the Big F*ck Up, and Zane looks at the holiday season through a TV camera lens with Advent Calendar House. Then it’s reviews time.
Liz Recommends - Saint Nick and the Big F*ck Up

“Saint” Nick and the Big F*ck Up is written by Phil Rickaby. Initially intended to be performed as a solo play, the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 put the kibosh on those plans. Since it may be a long while before theatres reopen and audiences are comfortable returning to the theatre, Phil decided to record this play as an audio drama, and release it for the Holiday season, 2020. Perhaps in the future, Phil will be able to perform some version of this play for a live audience.
Phil is a storyteller, creator, and performer. You may have seen him as Gormless Joe in Keystone Theatre’s The Belle of Winnipeg, The Last Man on Earth, and Gold Fever. His solo play The Commandment has played to rave reviews at Fringe Festivals across Canada.
He is the host of the Canadian theatre podcast, Stageworthy; and co-host of The Introvert’s Guide To, a podcast about introverts.
“Saint” Nick and the Big F*ck Up is Phil’s first experiment in audio drama.
Each ep is about 10 mins and it’s a six-part series so it’s a very easy listen.
For both: serial so start from the start.

Nick Recommends - Tinsel Tunes
Tinsel Tunes podcast goes into great detail about Christmas Tunes. Full of fun and interesting facts, it will get you into the Christmas Spirit. Hear about your favorite classics or modern songs. Learn about those songs that you dislike. The stories behind these are just as interesting.

Zane Recommends - Advent Calendar House
Every TV show HAS to have a Christmas special it seems, and this is the podcast about those specials! It is a salute to all TV holiday specials, but mostly the Christmas ones. Episodes are released all year round, but it is great to binge over the holiday period!
For Both: A Christmas Toy
