Bohemia Afterdark - Ben Munat of Rotor and Thrillhammer

Jeff Crawford host has guest Ben Munat former bass player with Rotor and Thrillhammer from Portland, Oregon. Ben is big influence on Portland's music scene for several decades.  Ben is now Senior software engineer for Weedmaps, in my option is really cool! We discussed Portland's underground music scene of the late 80's and decades that followed there after. Plus in the conversation we covered, Tributes to some famous Portland musicians, artists and influencers who passed away.
    mini-bio of Thrillhammer -
Thrillhammer is a short lived band of legend. Madness and pure energy followed the fellows (who would later form Hazel, Pond and Rotor) whereever they went ultimately resulting in the bands untimely demise. In 1992 Rough Trade in Germany posthumously issued the bands only release Giftless. Produced by Steve Albini the record is a document of Thrillhammer's vibrant power and strength.
Thrillhammer was formed in 1990 in Portland Oregon by David Triebwasser (Pond) on drums, Pete Krebs (Hazel) guitar and vocals, and Ben Munat (Rotor) on bass. The band managed a few one off shows in Seattle, Olympia and Portland and a short west coast tour rife with cops, guns, false charges of kidnapping, beatings by drug crazed maniacs, and high profile shows with the likes of Nirvana, Steel Pole Bathtub, Flipper and Urge Overkill. The band returned home and called it quits.

Bohemia Afterdark - Eddy Detroit Tribute with guest Chris Byrd

Bohemia Afterdark - Eddy Detroit Tribute with guest Chris Byrd

Chris Byrd good friends and fellow band mate with Eddy Detroit. “Where to start with Eddy Detroit? Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, it was there, in 1966, that he was in attendance for the first Iguanas gigs (Iggy Stooge's first band). He joined the White Panther party in Detroit and was "there" for the pre-punk sounds of The Stooges and MC5 ("We all smoked dope on the state Capitol and got beat up by the cops"). In the early '70s he traveled to London, where he stalked Marc Bolan and tried to seduce Tony Visconti's then-girlfriend Mary Hopkin. It was with Ms. Hopkin, when he was dropping off a demo tape at the Apple store, that he witnessed the moment when Ringo found out that The Beatles had broken up! (We've got the pictures to prove it!) In the mid-'70s, Detroit settled in Hollywood and started The Terminal Wave Band (bongo/synth/punk) which was the soundtrack to the hippy/biker/S&M/satanic/polyamorous scene that Detroit ruled in dingy, underground LA -- that's when he wasn't trying to seduce Nico (The Velvet Underground) to become one of his muses and lovers ("True story bub"). When rents in LA got too much for an acid-fried biker/S&M/punk, Eddy moved to Phoenix, AZ, and was seminal in fostering one of the most interesting underground musical scenes of the early '80s. He was an unofficial member of the Sun City Girls, toured with the Meat Puppets and Mighty Sphincter, and was the pith-helmeted shaman-in-residence at his club The Grotto!” – Forced Exposure

    Bohemia Afterdark Pilot Episode

    Bohemia Afterdark Pilot Episode

Bohemia Afterdark first started as cable show in 1982 from Scottsdale, Arizona. Name of the show has nothing to do with the Jazz song by Kenny Clakre "Bohemia After Dark". His sing is first spelled differently then the television show. Afterdark as one word, such as things happen "Afterdark" spelled this way to be hip. Bohemia was a term used by Beatniks and other early counter culture "ism".
