Today, we continue our series of episodes focused on female founders in Indonesia. Hosted by Helen Wong, Managing Partner at AC Ventures, we are joined Ellen Pranata, co-founder and CEO of Klar, an oral wellness startup in the archipelago that manufactures clear dental aligners, with each set tailor-made to suit a patient’s needs.

Launched during the pandemic, when most people weren’t making many trips to the dentist, Klar has been making a name for itself as the "Invisalign of Indonesia," but it also takes things one step further by offering a mobile app that allows dentists and patients to interact and monitor treatment progress remotely. The startup recently raised a US$4.5 million funding round, co-led by AC Ventures.

Klar has partnered with over 1,000 dentists and orthodontists to date. It is present in more than 800 dental clinics across every province, making treatment accessible to Indonesia’s entire 275 million population.

In this episode, Helen and Ellen dive into the unique challenges and opportunities that Klar is addressing in emerging Asia, while also analyzing how a feminine mindset in entrepreneurship can sometimes help companies improve their communication, cultures, and operations from the top down.

In official support for gender equality in the workplace, AC Ventures has formally committed to the International Finance Corporation’s Invest2Equal program, as well as the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles and its Principles for Responsible Investment.
