#176 How to Avoid Mold, Flame Retardants, VOCs, & Hidden Toxins w/ Building Biologist Corinne Segura

#176 How to Avoid Mold, Flame Retardants, VOCs, & Hidden Toxins w/ Building Biologist Corinne Segura

Corinne Segura is a building biologist who had extreme chemical and mold sensitivities when she first set out to build a chemical-free tiny house. The research and testing of those materials is what sparked the creation of the My Chemical Free House blog.
Corinne and I nerd out on how to avoid chemicals that are making you weak in your home, car, RV, etc.!  We want to make sure you stay as healthy as possible and eliminate things that make you weak from your environment.
We talk about some crazy stuff to avoid including:
    MOLD
Moldy Movie a great (free!) documentary by Dave Asprey What to look out for in home inspections  Cheryl Ceicko is a great resource!  Homebiotic-- a probiotic you can spray on your walls!  Corinne’s recipe for her a probiotic spray she puts on her skin. Mother Dirt the over the counter probiotic spray. Corinne recommends keeping an eye on your humidity with a simple $15 meter.
    PLASTICS
Arleen Blum is an amazing scientist who you should know!  Matt’s Reverse Osmosis water filter Corinne likes Brita filters
    FLAMETARDS
How they continue to come out of your mattress forever If you buy a used sofa, buy one built after 2015. Avoid polyurethane
    CARS
Corinne has an amazing resource on buying a chemical-free car. You can try a car hepa filter If you buy a new car, turn up the heat, and set it in the hot sun to let the chemicals come out. Buy a Honda The goal is PVC-free, withuse low-VOC adhesives, tapes, foams and coating materials
    HOMES
Pots and pans Do not buy a teflon pan! Matt owns a set of Xtrema Ceramic Cookware Paint Carpets-- look for wool.  Matt used ducttape under his carpets instead of glue.  Air filters-- consider a HEPA filter for most compounds, but if you have allergies to mold consider a Molekule.  Look for low VOC or Greenguard Gold Certification furniture.  Williams and Sonoma and Pottery Barn make reasonably priced low VOC furniture
    CLEANING PRODUCTS
Vinegar Peroxide Seventh generation or Ecos Magic Eraser Cleaning Pads Barkeeper’s Friend cleaning products

#175 Honor Your Mind, Body, & Spirit: Build your Dream Business & Life in Paradise w/ Amber Sears

#175 Honor Your Mind, Body, & Spirit: Build your Dream Business & Life in Paradise w/ Amber Sears

Amber Sears is an international pilates and yoga teacher, holistic nutritionist, former professional dancer and business coach. I’m a sun worshipping environmentalist, and planet romping entreprenuer,
She runs wellness retreats around the world, has written 800+ articles on Epicself.com, and does online business coaching with a specialty in womens business coaching.  Her new podcast Soul Powered is set to launch soon.
I’ve followed Amber since 2008 when she was living in San Francisco and I was in New York.  I reached out to her to see if she’d be interested in contributing to our newly launched website under30ceo.com.
Since then, Amber and I have followed parallel paths.  She moved down to Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica to open a wellness center, and I took her yoga class somewhere around 2013. She lived in the jungle, like I did, where she escaped the madness of life in the states, and not only worked to build a location independent business but went through an incredible spiritual transformation.
We talk a lot in the episode about her experience hosting ayahuasca retreats, and what type of inner-work you should expect, including mental, emotional, spiritual, and dietary protocols.  We also warn people against doing psychedelics for fun and finding a therapeutic setting if you feel called to do embark on this type of inner journey.
Coincidentally, she’s now living in Austin as I am, with her husband J.P. Sears, and we talk about reintegration to “real life” and how to prepare yourself if you are coming back from international travel, a yoga or meditation retreat, or psychedelic experience.
Amber says to be sure to “embody the lessons you are taught.”

#173 Receive $1000 per month from US Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang and his Freedom Dividend

#173 Receive $1000 per month from US Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang and his Freedom Dividend

Andrew Yang is a serial entrepreneur, author, and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate. In 2011, he founded the non-profit Venture for America, with the mission “to create economic opportunity in American cities by mobilizing the next generation of entrepreneurs and equipping them with the skills and resources they need to create jobs.”
Andrew who began his career as a corporate attorney also wrote the books Smart People Should Build Things and The War on Normal People. In the latter, he detailed the massive employment crisis that’s already underway and how the shift can affect tens of millions of Americans. He also laid out what he believes is a roadmap to a better future and it starts with the Freedom Dividend, a Universal Basic Income of $1000 a month for every American adult aged 18 to 64.
Because of his extensive work and contribution, Yang was named as a Champion of Change by the Obama White House in 2012. In 2015, the Obama White House again acknowledged him as a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship (PAGE) alongside Steve Case, Tory Burch, Daymond John, and many others.
This week’s episode talks about what Universal Basic Income is and how it actually affects people, how the policy can encourage innovation among young people, and how Universal Basic Income broadens the definition of work.
Andrew also shares how VAT tax brings in money to the American government, what a political revolution is and why it’s actually feasible, and the reason he’s running for president.
For people who are skeptical about the value Universal Basic Income offers, Andrew has this to say, “This is very pro-work. That’s the biggest thing that people get wrong.” #yanggang

#172 The Problem with our Food Supply, How to Overcome It, & Reach Our Potential w/ Teri Cochrane, The Wildatarian

#172 The Problem with our Food Supply, How to Overcome It, & Reach Our Potential w/ Teri Cochrane, The Wildatarian

(While eradicating cancer and neurodegenerative disease from our planet!)
Teri Cochrane is an integrative practitioner, certified coach, herbologist, function nutritionist, founder of the Cochrane Method, and author of the Wildatarian Diet: Living as Nature Intended.
Teri specializes in getting people to their potential and my conversation with Teri will definitely help you get to the next level.  It’s full of both big-picture ideas to make you a better thinker and decision-maker while getting down to actionable steps that you can take to improve your health.
We keep this episode very “consumer-friendly” so an everyday person can listen in and find out:
How to become better at systems thinking, decision-making, and become a “solution seeker.”
How Teri’s background managing a billion dollars as a risk manager for a Fortune 50 company led her to produce a systems mindset and create the Cochrane Method.  She even gives tips on how you can become a better systems thinker using your own personal algorithm.
Why Terri believes “the thought creates the thing,” and that “diet is everything we consume in life.”  (Not just food!) Teri addresses the concept of “intuitive eating” and...
How you can create an intuitive practice to make better decisions and how to listen to your intuition rather than fear.
We go into the issues with today’s food supply and how through healing ourselves, we can heal the planet.
Foods you can find in the grocery store and meals you can prepare in five minutes that adhere to Teri’s Wildatarian approach!
Did you know that 45% of young people aren’t healthy enough to qualify for the military?  Our health is now becoming a national security issue.

    Nerd Alert!
Listen to the end where Teri drops some serious knowledge on how amyloids in industrialized meat are causing tremendous viral and fungal load on our bodies, contributing to biofilms, and eventually cancer and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.   That’s right, Teri believes these things are metabolic diseases and that beta-amyloid plaques are just a symptom of Alzheimer’s, not the cause!
This is cutting edge science here, and a theory we are thrilled to be getting out to the world!
