Episode #242: Harnessing the Power of UVB Light for Health with Mitolux

Episode #242: Harnessing the Power of UVB Light for Health with Mitolux

Do you get enough sunlight? Most of us don't get adequate exposure to the sun's beneficial rays.

In today’s episode, I sit down with Gerardo Gutierrez (Guti), the creator of an innovative UV light device that mimics the healing properties of natural sunlight by delivering red, infrared, and UVB light frequencies in a specially formulated sequence. Guti shares insights from his research into how these different light bands impact our biology and overall well-being. Strategic sunlight exposure provides a wide range of health benefits - from boosting vitamin D, serotonin, and testosterone levels to improving conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

Overall, this conversation provides a nuanced understanding of light and its impact on our health. We discuss the benefits of light therapy and the MitoLux device.

A few years ago, Guti went through depression, low vitamin D levels, and other health issues. Instead of staying on medication long-term, he discovered the therapeutic benefits of sunlight exposure. Taking daily sunbaths allowed him to get off antidepressants and testosterone replacement therapy within just 3 months. Now Guti is on a mission to educate others about getting their "daily dose of sunshine" through strategic light exposure, whether from the sun itself or his therapeutic UV light invention.

Episode #238: Upgrade Your Vagus Nerve: 5 Strategies for Enhancing Resilience and Vitality

Episode #238: Upgrade Your Vagus Nerve: 5 Strategies for Enhancing Resilience and Vitality

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to bounce back from stress more easily than others? The answer may lie in the strength of their vagus nerve.

In today’s episode of the Longevity Podcast, I chat with Dr. Navaz Habib about the importance of the vagus nerve and its impact on heart rate variability (HRV). He explains that the vagus nerve is a unique nerve that connects the brain to all organs in the thorax and abdomen, allowing for communication and signaling. Vagal tone, which refers to the strength of the signals sent through the vagus nerve, is crucial for optimal health.

Dr. Habib identifies four types of stressors that can affect vagal tone: emotional, physical, biochemical, and psychological. He emphasizes the importance of proper breathing techniques, such as slow, diaphragmatic breathing, to improve vagal tone. We also discuss the role of nitric oxide in supporting vagus nerve function and how to supplement it for overall health.

Dr. Navaz Habib, is a Doctor of Chiropractic and Functional Medicine Practitioner who empowers his clients to dig deeper and find the answers to what is holding back their health, affecting their energy and productivity. He is also the host of The Health Upgrade Podcast and speaks on various topics related to Vagus Nerve and its impact on optimal health.

    Key Takeaways:
The vagus nerve is a unique nerve that connects the brain to all organs in the thorax and abdomen, allowing for communication and signaling.
To improve vagal tone and support the vagus nerve, practice breathwork techniques such as diaphragmatic breathing and longer exhales.
Consider nitric oxide supplementation and maintain electrolyte balance to enhance vagal tone.

Episode #237: The Muscle-Centric Approach to Health: Dr. Eric Fete On Muscle For Fat Loss, Bones, and Hormones

Episode #237: The Muscle-Centric Approach to Health: Dr. Eric Fete On Muscle For Fat Loss, Bones, and Hormones

Do you want to optimize fat loss, hormone health, and/or bone strength? You should know that muscle is your secret weapon.

In today’s episode of the Longevity Podcast, I talk with Eric Fete, DO about the intricate relationship between muscle and bone health, and how strength training, proper nutrition, and supplements can help maintain and improve both. We also explore the importance of muscle as a powerful energy factory due to its high concentration of mitochondria, and how staying active can help reclaim your energy levels. Dr Eric and I touch on the crucial role of testosterone in women's health, and how lifting heavy can support this hormone, leading to improved insulin sensitivity, muscle mass, blood pressure, mood, and a reduced risk of cancer.

Lastly, we address concerns about fat loss peptides potentially causing muscle mass loss. We emphasize that proper nutrition and strength training can help negate these effects, ensuring that weight loss comes primarily from body fat.

Dr. Eric Fete, DO is the founder of PrimeX, a preventive health, age management, and peak performance company that provides nutrition products, educational materials, physician-grade supplements, hormone therapy, and personalized health plans for maximum health, vitality, performance, and wellness.

    What We Discuss:
1:30 Muscle Medicine vs Sick Medicine with Eric Fete, DO
7:30 The relationship between muscle and bone
    12:50 Vibration plates
    25:00 How muscle affects metabolism
31:00 Testosterone for women and estrogen for men
    42:50 GLP-1s and building muscle
54:55 Supplements for people who don’t want GLP-1s

    Key Takeaways:
Muscles secret myokines which directly build bone and make it stronger. Myokines exert a stimulative effect and prevent bone reabsorption (breaking down and weakening). Proper nutrition, strength training, and supplements can mitigate bone deterioration.
Muscle is one of the most powerful energy factories because it’s full of mitochondria. You can reclaim your energy by being active.
Fat loss peptides can possibly make you lose muscle mass, but proper nutrition and strength training can negate those effects so you lose mainly body fat. You could also balance it out by using other peptides like growth hormone.
