Concept Album: Antichrist Superstar by Marylin Manson
In October of 1996, Marylin Manson would release a highly controversial and divisive album, Antichrist Superstar. It was loved by outsiders who didn't fit in with their Christian parents and reviled by political and religious authorities. It actively courted the work of Friedrich Nietzsche and flirted with fascism and social Darwinism. It was heavy on misanthropy and anger at society. In the 90s, you either loved this album or hated it and even some of the haters secretly loved it but stayed silent lest their peers raise an eyebrow. Let's go back in time to the opening shots of a nascent culture war.
