Eurovision 1994: 30th Anniversary Celebration
On April 30th 1994, the Eurovision Song Contest came to Ireland for the fifth time following back-to-back wins. Today, we're celebrating 30 years since Dublin hosted an iconic edition of the contest which saw Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan complete the hat trick for Ireland, the iconic interval act performance and birth of Riverdance, and ultimately Ireland's sixth win.
To help us celebrate, we're delighted to be joined by three iconic figures from the 1994 contest. To start, we chat the one of our hosts from the evening - Cynthia Ní Mhurchú. Alongside the late Gerry Ryan, Cynthia guiding over 300 million viewers through the extravaganza on the night - including introducing Riverdance to the world.
Of course, we could not celebrate the 1994 contest without speaking to the winners. It is an honour to speak with the rock 'n' roll kids themselves, Paul Harrington & Charlie McGettigan. Paul & Charlie share how they came together to perform "Rock 'n' Roll Kids" on the Eurovision stage, share funny stories from their travels across Europe, and how the song remains as popular as ever.
