    • Music

Show Notes: edmprod.com/120

This week, Gill Chang sat down to chat on the EDMProdcast

Gill Chang is a Taiwanise producer based in LA who’s released music on outlets like Trap Nation, MrSuicideSheep, and Proximity, and he’s also known for his best-selling Splice sample packs.

We start with Gill Chang’s background, looking at how he transitioned from his 9-5 into making music full-time. We talk about how he built up multiple revenue streams on the side, which enabled him to quit his job to pursue music full-time. We talk about the early stages of the Gill Chang project, and how he grew the project to where it’s at now.

On the production side, Gill dives deep into his production workflow, talking about his approach to sample selection, sound design, layering, and mixing. He explains what his default mastering chain looks like, how to add organic textures to your music, and how to stay original in genres that are quite repetitive. We also discuss the pros and cons of using mixing engineers, and whether or not Gill thinks you should outsource the mixing and mastering for your music.
