Jamie’s experience is unique to most of the Breast Implant Illness stories however I felt it needs to be told because it’s a cautionary tale to those women who are considering breast implants after a mastectomy and the risks that aren’t frequently spoken about. In this candid interview Jamie courageously retells her battle with cancer, her decision to go FLAT and her fight to stay alive after undergoing the procedures for spacers that prepare the body for implants. Her will to survive is astounding, but her resolve to THRIVE is what I am most in awe of. She is a shining example of living in your truth, owning your body, and making no apologies for it!

This interview took place only a few weeks after Kelsie’s explant surgery. It’s hard to relive our stories and especially when the experience is that fresh, but if anyone is strong enough to do it, it’s this girl! In this raw conversation, Kelsie shares about being a single mom with two kids, competing in bodybuilding shows while nursing her babies, being muscular and feeling the need to have boobs to be “proportionate”, and how she’s handling the recovery process on her own. I would be lying if I didn’t say this woman probably saved my life. Laura’s courage to pursue the truth about breast implant illness 30 years ago (then known as Silicone Adjuvant Breast Disease) and her bravery to speak out against the industry that was making women sick, has paved the way for women like myself to get the necessary help we need and to be a light to so many in the darkness. She’s been featured on major talkshows in the 1980’s and even helped win an FDA battle in 2019! She is an integral part of Dr. Pryor’s plastic surgery office as a BII patient advocate and is a source of comfort and wealth of knowledge and experience to those who are seeking explant surgery.
