Melissa Caddick: Fraudster's death to remain a mystery

Warning: This story contains graphic content.

We finally know what happened in the missing persons investigation that captured a nation. Melissa Caddick, the fraudster who stole $23 million from her closest family and friends, is dead.

So said the deputy state coroner, who handed down her report last week. But how did she come to this finding? Until now, all we knew was that Caddick’s right foot had washed up on the shores of a remote beach. This was shortly after she went missing, nearly two and a half years ago.

Today, investigative reporter Kate McClymont joins Samantha Selinger-Morris on The Age and SMH daily news podcast Please Explain to discuss what we now know - and what we’ll never know - about what happened to Melissa Caddick.

Lay off the hairdressers!

Love the podcast but as a hairdresser it’s quite insulting how many times you feel the need to point out that he’s ONLY a hairdresser. Also his client who said “he’s only a fricken hairdresser how the hell can he afford that”
Bad form.

Liar, Liar

Please Tom Steinfort, stop with the faux hesitations! We know you’re reading a script, just inject it with feeling! The hesitations render you and, in turn, the podcast virtually unlistenable to!

Avoid!

Dear oh dear not all journalists are storytellers! From repeating the same facts and stories over and over to weirdly the two hosts talking about each other like we all know them made this a dreary listen. The two hosts outlining their achievements at the start of the first podcast should have been a red flag! They need to listen to this American life or podcasts like that to understand how to weave journalism into an audio story. It really felt like they were just reading the news story they had written.Couldn’t finish it, just goes to show even if you have an interesting story if you tell it badly it can become so void of entertainment
