The number one bestseller in Mexico and America for 2 years straight, and subsequently a best seller around the world, Laura Esquivel's Like Water for Chocolate is a novel filled with romance, and bittersweet reality. Published in 1989, it revolves around the story of two lovers, Pedro and Tita. Tita is seen fighting her way through the stereotypes that existed during the time, to die with her one true love. In this episode of our podcast, Between the Covers, Armaan, Torie, and Anisha talk about the statements Esquivel makes through two of the most prevalent themes in the novel: love, and female empowerment.
