DE252 Road Rage, how it can entrap you, and how to get rid of it!

DE252 Road Rage, how it can entrap you, and how to get rid of it!

It’s undoubtedly growing and becoming a norm in our road and social culture. Today’s show is going to be a bit personal, as I share my 3 personal experiences, takeaways and lessons learned from road rage.

My first engagement with road rage goes way back when I was only 7. This was back in the 60s and even though the term road rage hadn’t been coined yet, there were still a number of incidences happening.

I remember traveling with my mom to see her mother (my grandmother) and as we turned down the street that my grandmother lived on, down the end of the crowded street, we saw a woman trying to back out of a driveway. As she did this, another car further down the street was speeding towards the woman. I could clearly tell that there was going to be a big calamity about to unfold before our eyes. My mom, however, in an attempt to stop the whole incident from happening decided to speed up our car, tearing down the street, and eventually positioning us between the woman trying to back out of the driveway and the incoming speeding car, in doing so, my mom blocked the incoming car.

The man from the speeding car immediately sprung out of his vehicle and mad with rage, he began a series of yelling and screaming.

That marked my first experience with road rage, and from it, I learned two important lessons, righteousness and bravery.
Anyone in my mom’s position could have opted to mind their own business and let fate take its course. But not my mom though a petite 110-pound lady. She decided to put not just herself, but her 7-year-old son in harm's way for the sake of this total stranger’s safety.
My second experience with road rage happened in 1980. I was working for an electrical contractor based in Essex County, New Jersey. It was Christmas Eve and my partner Paul and I was working on a certain contract in Newark, New Jersey (Newark was a pretty unsafe place to be back in the day). It was noon, and Paul and I had gone to grab some food as we get ready to call it a day. On our return to the truck, we found a small car that had just double-parked us.

The car window was opened, so I jumped in, released the handbrake and we pushed the car across the street and out of the way. Out truck was now free.

As we returned to our truck, the owner of the car we just re-parked showed up and started tearing into us with all manner of yelling and screaming. Paul tried cooling him down, assuring him that his car was fine. But Paul’s methods didn’t seem to work, as the guy looked like he was ready to take the confrontation to the next level and go all physical on us.

Paul noticing what was about to happen, disappeared to the back of our track and showed up moments later with a conduit bender.
All this time, I’m standing by the side. Mouth zipped and silent as a grave.

They keep tearing into each other a bit more. I waited for a small break and decided to dive in, ‘’All right, let’s go home.’’

And I don’t know if it was the Holy Spirit working through me, but that’s all it took and the argument stopped.

What I learned from this incident is that you shouldn’t get into confrontations with strangers. Because first of all, you don’t know what this person is capable of as far as doing something stupid and do you really want to bring that person into your life through a relationship filled lawyers, council, litigation or jail?

My third personal experience involving road rage only happened about 3 – 4 weeks ago as I was driving west on Route 40, just out of Nashville.

There was something on my mind that was really disturbing me. I was in the middle lane and had been driving for about 10 minutes when someone who was driving so aggressively cut right in front of me.

This made me get so livid that I immediately switched to the fast lane, and to my surprise, I heard the sound of a screami

DE251 Dr. Nick Morgan, Author, Speaker, Thought Leader, Master Communicator

After being shocked back to life, the doctors and nurses ran tests to see if his brain was still functioning. He tested fine but had lost his ability to read body language. After so much struggle, Nick had to retrain himself step by step, by studying other people’s body language.

DE250 Dr. Laura Mattia, Author, Speaker, Thought Leader, Financial Empowerment, Here to Challenge and Inspire You!

Happy New Year everyone! And welcome back to the dHarmic evolution.

Joining us on the first show of 2020 is Dr. Laura Mattia. So, sit back relax, get yourself a notebook and a pen, because this is going to be an action-packed, resourceful and informative podcast for all of you.

Dr. Laura Mattia is a former corporate financial executive and has over 30 years of experience in Finance. She’s also the founder of The Women’s Money Empowerment Network – An educational Research program through the 501c 3 organization whose mission is to teach women to become financially engaged so that they can live life on their own terms, receive guidance and conduct research. Dr. Laura is also the author of Gender on Wall Street (A book uncovering opportunities for women in Financial services). She has currently dedicated her career in training the next generation of ethical, educated and inspired financial planners.

Dr. Laura despite having Majored in Psychology, decided to take an MBA in finance and accounting in order to pay the house bills and support her family, this path would eventually lead her to the corporate world. It was while working as a woman in the executive world that she constantly got approached by women who requested help while handling financial matters in relation to issues such as divorce, workers' compensation, property management, etc. This would prove to be the root source of Dr. Laura’s eureka moment, where she decided to shift into the role of a financial adviser.

Having experienced a lot of gender-based difficulties and obstacles while working as an executive. Laura helps women who are currently in similar situations to successfully overcome such hurdles and have more fulfilling careers.
The gender problem, Dr. Laura describes, is rooted deep in our societies and cultures. It subconsciously affects both genders. That’s why we have so many women who have given in to less influential roles because they’ve bought into the stereotype of where women are supposed to be.

Dr. Laura spends a lot of her free time running to keep fit. She has also been regularly meditating ever since she was introduced to the art by her father when she was 13.

‘’Is it nature or is it nurture? And as a Psychology Major and mother of four, I can absolutely tell you that a lot of things are natural.’’ – Dr. Laura Mattia

DE249 Cali Rivlin, Highlight Reel, Israel, London, what a beautiful musical combination!

DE249 Cali Rivlin, Highlight Reel, Israel, London, what a beautiful musical combination!

I hope you all had a wonderful and most blessed Christmas experience! Wrapping up our highlight reel this month is Cali Rivlin. A skilled, talented and hardworking singer, I promise you’re all going to be fans of Cali once you’re done listening to the interview.
Cali is a London based Israeli singer and pianist. She began her classical training at the Tel Aviv Music conservatory whilst in Israel at a tender age of only 8 years. She has had a passion and love for music since she was a toddler and always felt an attraction towards the art for as long as she can remember.  Her journey towards her pianist career was a random act of fate. When she was 14, Cali’s friend moved to an apartment next door, and her piano wouldn’t fit through the doorway. Just for the general love of piano Cali always had, she decided to buy the piano from her friend. And thus, she began a lifetime love for the piano and its tunes (Cali still uses the piano to this day, and her latest album cover is a shot with Cali sitting on the piano!)
    [25:32] Cali’s opinion on T.V Reality Shows.
Despite being approached several times, and by numerous scouts to feature in different T.V Reality shows, such as The Voice (London), The Voice (Israel), American Idol and so many others. Cali has always said no approaches.
Cali feels that such shows only fulfill the purpose of tearing down the artistic “Olympus of inspiration” that music provides. And when this is done, it becomes like a modern-day gladiator arena where artists fight each other for the sake of winning, and, instead of being inspired by the music, everyone becomes a judge.
‘‘I wanted to achieve something that’s impossible, and my song at the time (Flying Through Water) sounded impossible to produce. And that’s what you set out to do in life, in art, and in everything. You set out to inspire others by achieving the impossible.             – “Cali Rivlin”

DE248 Nancy Harms in New York, Copenhagen, Paris….. Jazz at it’s finest!

DE248 Nancy Harms in New York, Copenhagen, Paris….. Jazz at it’s finest!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, hope your holidays are wonderful.  Today’s Highlight Reel continues featuring Nancy Harms’ melodious and heavenly jazz vocals.
Nancy Harms is a New York-based internationally known jazz singer. Born and raised in a small Minnesota town, Nancy’s journey to becoming the woman and artist she is today was filled with a lot of trials, setbacks, and tribulations. Her first blow came when she applied for a choral music scholarship for college, but she wasn’t even granted an audition. The best singer in her town, and not even an audition.
She completed her Music Education degree through her own means and began teaching music in small Minnesota based schools. While working as a teacher, she’d experience panic attacks and suffer from severe anxiety. This was deemed to be the lowest and most depressing moment of Nancy’s life. The message from her anxiety was loud and clear. This line of work was not meant for her.
Through the help of some incredible friends, Nancy was able to move to Minneapolis in search of her true and authentic self. She started singing at coffee shops alongside her college buddies, and slowly snowballed her way into bigger gigs in clubs and restaurants. With every performance and a standing ovation, she began to slowly come to the realization that becoming a Jazz player was her true calling and purpose in life.
A lot of Nancy’s songs are about her friends, through whom she derives everyday inspiration and learned so much about life.
Today, she travels the world, gracing different audiences with her sweet, angelic and glorious vocals. But for the next one hour, you get to listen to her soothing, warm chocolate voice, exclusively on the dHarmic evolution podcast.
“Where I perform doesn’t really matter. It really comes down to the audience with me”
