Repurposing Shame and Using Our White Privilege to Dismantle Racism

Repurposing Shame and Using Our White Privilege to Dismantle Racism

Acknowledging our societal privilege is one of the first steps we can take in the movement toward ending systemic racism. There are a lot of complex emotions like shame and frustration that arise when we begin to think about racism, white privilege, and that's okay. Racism seems like a yucky relic from the past, but the more you learn, the more you realize how the very reality we live in has been based on systems and history books that have been whitewashed to tone down the issue. These discriminatory practices are still in place to this day. When we become aware of this, we can begin to do the inner-work to find out how to identify our privilege and use it to help dismantle the white supremacy that lingers today.

    Managing Expectations with Dwain Harpole

My great friend, Dwain, joins us this week to talk about one of our favorite things -- expectations! These are those things that you can immediately set but rarely get met. So why is that? Why do we create these illusions in our head only to be disappointed when they don't happen? We talk about setting the bar high for ourselves and others, what it feels like when reality =/ expectations, and how we can try to better manage this in our lives so we don't manifest our disappointment. ♪♪ Somebody come get her!! ♪♪

When Reality Shatters Into a Million Pieces

When Reality Shatters Into a Million Pieces

Sometimes reality comes crashing down, smacks us in the face, and leaves us looking confused at a whole lot of broken pieces on the ground. As yucky as these shattered illusions may seem, they are often a blessing in disguise. I share some of my experiences with "awakening" to the state of reality as we know it, and how this may have been amplified with the quarantine in place. If you are struggling with some of your previously held beliefs not making sense anymore, give this episode a listen.

    Being Okay With Being Alone

    Being Okay With Being Alone

During this quarantine, you may have been forced to be isolated when that's not your usual experience. Having 40+ hour work weeks and things to fill our time keep us from having to face some serious things in our life. With all sense of normalcy screeching to a halt, you may be experiencing an exacerbation of some of your fears and insecurities. Breathe through the uncomfortable-ness and remind yourself of your strength and wholeness. I experienced my bout with embracing the not so cool parts of me over the past year or so, so I'm sharing a little bit of my story in this episode. Being alone is something that doesn't sound necessarily fun, but I have learned enjoying my own company provides the most enriching experience for my soul and my heart.

Imposter Syndrome, Fear of Success, and Other Yucky Stuff

Imposter Syndrome, Fear of Success, and Other Yucky Stuff

Well, well, well, we meet again, Fear. This time you've manifested yourself as something so weird and questionable, I have to ask again, are you sure? You're afraid of me doing a good job? What? It's so weird to think that we would have a part of our being that wants to work against our successes. That wants to crumble any opportunity for growth and well-being. Shining a spotlight on these feelings isn't pretty, but I think it is the beginning of understanding what these thoughts mean and where they are coming from. Listen as I share my recent experiences with creating and hating and creating some more.
