Welcome to HOOVERING, the podcast about eating. Host, Jessica Fostekew (Guilty Feminist, Motherland) has a frank conversation with an interesting person about gobbling; guzzling; nibbling; scoffing; devouring and wolfing all up… or if you will, hoovering.

In this episode I’m talking to the brilliantly funny comedian and radio host Tom Price, you know him from weekends on Magic FM, being the host of The Leak on BBC Wales and from his gorgeous podcast ‘My Mate Bought A Toaster.’ We spoke remotely from our respective homes, tits deep in lockdown. Unwittingly we indulged in the amazing Star Bar v Boost SMASHDOWN I’d been wanting to do for ages!

IF you don’t already you should defo please follow TOM PRICE on the socials. His podcast MY MATE BOUGHT A TOASTER is brilliant and I’m on it soon please. And he’s the weekend breakfast host on MAGIC.

My live stuff is obviously all on hold but I’m in two series on telly at the moment, THE TROUBLE WITH MAGGIE COLE on ITV Hub and TRIGONOMETRY on the BBC iplayer.

If you have any spare dollar in your life the first thing I’d like you to do with it is give it to either a food bank like the TRUSSELL TRUST

If after giving to them you’ve still got more spare dosh to give a month I’m on this great site called PATREON where I swap your money for ace podcast related stuff like totally exclusive content and guest recipes. It’ll help me keep the podcast not just alive, but also thriving. Thanks so so so much if you’ve become a patron recently and/ or stuck with me since the beginning of this.

This episode was a Cadbury’s battle of the mighty BOOST v it’s lesser known twin, the STARBAR

THIS is the Grenade protein shake I drank once that didn’t entirely taste of s**t.

Do you remember SUGAR FREE POLOS? Wonder if they still give you the s***s?

We big up the extraordinary podcast about death, GRIEFCAST

And looks like they do still make BOIL IN THE BAG RICE. Madness.

Hoovering - Episode 112: Molly Forbes

Welcome to HOOVERING, the podcast about eating. Host, Jessica Fostekew (Guilty Feminist, Motherland) has a frank conversation with an interesting person about gobbling; guzzling; nibbling; scoffing; devouring and wolfing all up… or if you will, hoovering.

This episode is the last one I recorded BC, before corona and it’s with the absolutely brilliant presenter of C4’s amazing body positive ‘Naked Beach’ and brilliant anti-diet activist Molly Forbes. We met at her lovely home in Devon where we’d made us really fit filo and spinach pies about four weeks ago before all this dramaggedon.

Molly is amazing on INSTAGRAM where you’ll be able to find out more about her incredible #FREEFROMDIETS campaign and eventually once the worlds back up and running, events. She also has an amazing body positive podcast called the @BODYCONSPODCAST. Get all over, all of that, please.

My live stuff is obviously all on hold but I’m in two series on telly at the moment, THE TROUBLE WITH MAGGIE COLE on ITV Hub and TRIGONOMETRY on the BBC iplayer. Also I’m part of the writing team between a new series coming called SUSAN CALMAN: SOCIALLY DISTANT on BBC Scotland and Iplayer, soon.

If you have any spare dollar in your life the first thing I’d like you to do with it is give it to either a food bank like the TRUSSELL TRUST or to the #FeedNHS programme being funded via the LEON WEBSITE HERE

The absolutely brilliant C4 show that Molly hosted was called NAKED BEACH which enacts an experiment from DR KEON WEST

Molly also fed me a pie from the wonderfully named CLIVE’S PIES in Devon, on the outskirts of Exeter.

She mentioned the absolutely classic book THE BEAUTY MYTH

And the antithesis of Naked Beach, which I find uncomfortable and upsetting to watch is also on C4 NAKED ATTRACTION.

The terrible old Ukiper c**t I mentioned but couldn’t remember the name of was GODFREY BLOOM

I champion the utterly brilliant HEALTH AT EVERY SIZE and excellent comedian SOFIE HAGEN For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

This is my first Hoovering recorded remotely, just last week at the very start of us all being at this point advised to stay at home because of Covid-19. As we speak the shops are carnage and the shelves are empty. So I’m bringing you the absolutely relentless joy machine that is brilliant comedian and actor Alison Spittle. She in her home, me in mine, both having a bowl of Heinz tinned tomato soup.

I’ve had this Hoovering in the tank for a while now and I’e saved it up because we’re on the cusp of Mother’s Day. It’s my lovely Mum! Nicky Suttle. She’s a child protection trainer and former nurse and Head of Care in various schools and as putrid as it sounds and frankly is, one of my best friends and favourite people. I hope you like it.

We ate a really fit fit fit soup which will be in my guest recipes in April if you’re one of my Patrons but for general reference, Mum got it out of a now ancient and probably stolen copy of the SAINSBURYS MAGAZINE.

And this little beauty is the HAMLYN ALL COLOUR COOKBOOK by Mary Berry and others.

I’m including this because I like to think there’s maybe someone in the universe who has access to podcasts but also hasn’t heard of MCDONALDS

Here is the Facebook page for the genuinely amazing NIHAL SPICE Indian restaurant and takeaway in Swanage.

And lastly we mentioned the sitcom GAVIN AND STACEY which my Mum and step-Dad are mega fans of.

    OH, And

The biscuits we were on about were FOX’S JAM & CREAM, cereal that gets the most praise is CHEERIOS and the pizza winners DOMINOS get a nod too.

I’m only bloody hoovering with one of my culinary heroes this week. It’s the absolute superhero food writer Meera Sodha. WAAAAAHHHHHHHH! I F*****G KNOW. She’s the absolute best, and poetic in how articulately she tells her stories. What a massive treat for everyone involved.

I would very much love to have you come and see my stand up show HENCH, which now up and off on TOUR all around the UK, IRELAND and MELBOURNE. Come! All my tickets are on sale now and they’re selling out like wildfire.

Outside of that I’ll be doing new material gigs and I’m always sticking new dates on MY WEBSITE so have a check. The Hoovering Live dates go on there too.

THIS IS THE RECIPE for the salted miso brownies that Meera made us.

She mentioned an extraordinary sounding posh Italian restaurant in north London called TRULLO

Turns out we studied at the same time at LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS

I rave about the dosas I had in Leicester at HERB KAYAL

She talks about training at DOCK KITCHEN which no longer exists but it redirects to its creators.

Meera taught me about a load of important food people. Bread activist ANDREW WHITLEY; FERGUS HENDERSON; NIKI SEGNET; FUCHSIA DUNLOP and of course MADHUR JAFFREY

And HERE is the Etles Uyghur restaurant she mentioned for specifically brilliant Chinese food.

And here is my old show that I mentioned, available on Next Up called THE SILENCE OF THE NANS.

Food for thought

In today's diet obsessed culture it is great to come across a food centred podcast that celebrates food and eating in a healthy way. Jessica's hilarious and insightful journey into the foods that we eat and the reasons that we eat them will leave you hungry for more.
