The new program allows visitors to live and work for up to a year in Portugal and it will be launched Oct 30, 2022.

​By launching the new digital  nomad visa, Portugal will join the list of countries that already offer  such opportunities to all internationals who plan to work remotely.

​Portugal is one of the few  European countries to currently offer a long-stay visa to remote workers  and digital nomads. With this visa, you can live in Portugal for up to  one year and work remotely from one of the hottest digital nomad  hotspots in the world.

​Requirements:

Remote workers who make at least four times the Portuguese minimum wage can apply - that amounts to about €2831 ($2.750)/month.

Remote workers can apply for  either a temporary stay visa of up to one year or a residency permit  that can be renewed for up to five years.

Workers need proof of  employment from a company located outside the country, as well as proof  that shows that the applicant is a non-EU resident.

​Advantages:

Travel visa-free throughout  the Schengen Area, a region containing 26 European Union member  countries where travelers can move freely without dealing with border  control.

​Process:

You can apply at a Portuguese  Consulate in your home country or at Portugal's immigration agency SEF  (Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras). On top of showing proof of  income for the last three months, applicants must submit tax residency  documents and a contract of employment (or proof of self-employment).

With real estate you will pay more taxes (acquisition tax around 6% and 0,8% stamp duty tax) and also tax on income generated by your property in the future at a tax rate of 28% (need to do a tax return in Portugal).

With investment fund you will have no tax and distribution of dividends are not taxed unless you live in a country which is considered to be a tax heaven in the eyes of the portuguese law.

As per the recent news regarding the amendments carried out in the  Portuguese Investment Program (Golden Visa Portugal), we would like to  inform you that last Friday the final regulation was approved by the  Portuguese Government (Decree Law no. 14/2021 the 12th of February).

The main changes of the Portuguese Golden Visa program are:

1M euros capital transfer option will increase of the amount of the threshold to 1,5M euros capital transfer.

350.000,00  euros or more capital transfer for acquisition of units of investment  funds or venture capital funds option will increase of the amount of the  threshold to 500.000,00 euros capital transfer.

Acquisition  of Real Estate for housing of 500.000,00 euros or more and acquisition  and restoration work of Real Estate for housing of the amount of  350.000,00 euros or more options. Properties for residential purpose to  be eligible need to be purchased in regions with low population density  or at the Islands of Madeira and Azores. The amendments approved on last Friday are due to enter into force on the 1st of January 2022.
