Jazz Guitar Life "sat down" with Jon Raney, the son of the great Jazz Guitarist Jimmy Raney and younger brother of the equally wonderful Jazz Guitarist Doug Raney. Jon shares wonderful and entertaining memories about Jimmy and Doug and his thoughts and recollections are quite candid when they need to be. Even though we spent over an hour and a half in conversation, there's definitely going to be a part 2. So stay tuned for that :)

Jazz Guitar Life Podcast: Ep 21 - Bruce Forman and Pat Bergeson Talk 100 BC

Jazz Guitar Life Podcast: Ep 21 - Bruce Forman and Pat Bergeson Talk 100 BC

Bruce Forman and Pat Bergeson are working on a very special recording and tour to celebrate Barney Kessel and Chet Atkins 100th birthdays and are asking for our help in making this wonderful project see the light of day.

In this Jazz Guitar Life podcast, both Bruce and Pat share their respective tales of Barney and Chet, the relationship each has with their respective iconic instruments and they also share with us the "WHY" in relation to this special project and how we - the Jazz Guitar Community - can be of help in getting this project off the ground and into our homes.

Slight disclaimer: I wanted to get this podcast "on the air" quickly before the kickstarter campaign ends on February 15, 2024 so I did practically no editing at all. There will be a bunch of "Uhmmms" and pregnant pauses but honestly, that does not detract from the informative and entertaining chat we all had. Think of it as being the proverbial "fly on the wall" :) And now ladies and gentlemen, Bruce Forman and Pat Bergeson...

Jazz Guitar Life "sat down" with the wonderful educator, composer and Jazz Guitarist Dave Stryker to talk about his latest release titled Groove Street featuring his working/recording Trio along with his old friend sax legend Bob Mintzer. Suffice it to say we talk about the new recording, the recording process, the gear used, his long standing association with Bob Minzter and why it's so important to become a leader when building your career both in the studio and on the bandstand. Plus much more!

It's an insighful, informative and entertaining interview that goes deep into what it is like being a working professional in the Jazz Industry. Definitely worth checking out! Jazz Guitar Life Podcast: Ep 19 - Bill Milkowski

Jazz Guitar Life Podcast: Ep 19 - Bill Milkowski

Podcasters note: I mistakenly called this podcast, episode 18. It is in fact episode 19.

I first became aware of writer, producer and author Bill Milkowski back in the mid to late 70's, when, as a young up-and-coming rock guitar player, I started buying Guitar Player Magazine. As my pursuit shifted to Jazz Guitar, Bill's writing was right there with me in such publications as Downbeat, Jazz Times, Guitar World and other top-shelf publications. Not to mention countless album liner notes. Suffice it to say, his writing is just as impactful today as it was when I was 17.

In this podcast, Bill and I talk about Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, Jaco Pastorious and much more. He is definitely full of surprises and has a vast wealth of knowledge in both the Jazz and Rock worlds.

It’s a fun, insighful, informative and entertaining interview and is definitely worth checking out! I think you're really gonna enjoy this one!

As always, I’d love to hear or read your feedback so don’t be shy!

Jazz Guitar Life Podcast: Ep 18 - John Pizzarelli Plays Pat Metheny

Jazz Guitar Life Podcast: Ep 18 - John Pizzarelli Plays Pat Metheny

Back in April of 2021, before there was a podcast component to Jazz Guitar Life, I "sat" down with John Pizzarelli during the hight of the Pandemic to talk about his latest album at that time, Better Days Ahead: Solo Guitar Takes on Pat Metheny. John talked about the album, the making of the album, his relationship with Pat, his father and mother and much more. He also demonstrated certain ideas that he was working out on his guitar, which of course, you couldn't "hear" in the original print form.

It’s a fun, insighful, informative and entertaining interview and is definitely worth checking out! As always, I’d love to hear or read your feedback so don’t be shy!

Jazz Guitar Life Podcast: Ep 17 - Matt Warnock

I recently "sat down" with Jazz Guitarist/Educator Matt Warnock and had an enjoyable and fun chat about his early years; his association with drummer extraordinaire Billy Hart; how his latest debut album came to be and how he came to acquire a unique Jubilee Original Semi-Hollow body guitar. Plus a whole lot more!!

It’s a fun, insighful, informative and entertaining interview and is definitely worth checking out! As always, I’d love to hear or read your feedback so don’t be shy!
