E69: Elke Wiss on Asking Better Questions and Getting Better Answers

E69: Elke Wiss on Asking Better Questions and Getting Better Answers

On this week’s episode, you’re going to hear a conversation I had with Elke Wiss.
Elke is a practical philosopher and a best-selling author.
Her book, How To Know Everything, offers a framework for asking better questions and makes the case for why we should all improve our question-asking skills.
In the next hour, you’re going to learn:

The six fundamental errors we all make when it comes to effective question asking, and how to avoid them
Why creating detachment between your opinions and your identity can help you not only ask better questions, but become a better conversationalist
Why we shouldn’t look to formal education, politics, journalism, or police interview techniques to sharpen our ability to ask precise questions
The reason it’s so important to ask YOURSELF better questions, and a really practical exercise you can make use of to do just that.
    And so much more.
This was always going to be an interesting one, sitting down and asking questions to somebody who is, to all intents and purposes, a professional question asker.
But I learned a lot from Elke around a subject that is grossly undervalued, and yet one that holds huge upside if only we get it right.
I’m sure you’re going to learn a lot as well.

E67: Chris Williamson on Identity Change, Sobriety, Cancel Culture and more

E67: Chris Williamson on Identity Change, Sobriety, Cancel Culture and more

On this episode of Life and Lessons, you’re going to hear a conversation I had with Chris Williamson.
Chris is the host of the Modern Wisdom podcast, which he has used to have conversations with some of the most interesting people on the planet, including more than 100 New York Times Bestselling Authors – and in the process has racked up over 10 million downloads.
Away from the microphone, Chris is a director of Voodoo Events, who have welcomed more than 1 million partygoers through the doors of clubs across the UK
And he’s also had an inside look into the world of reality TV, as the very first person through the doors on the first series of Love Island.
So with all of that said, you can imagine how interesting a conversation this is going to be.
In the next hour, you’re going to learn:

How embracing your true self and letting go of outdated versions of your identity can be a huge catalyst for positive change
Why a club promoter who was once a self-confessed party-boy has spent almost 1,000 days sober in the pursuit of improved productivity
Chris’ theory on the true motivation behind those who attach themselves to the cancel culture movement, and why we might one day see an end to it
The exact steps you need to take right now if you want to come out of this lockdown as a better person
    And so much more.

I shouldn’t pick favourites, but this is absolutely my favourite episode of Life and Lessons so far.
I’ve listened to well over 250 episodes of Chris’ podcast, so I thought I had nothing else left to learn from him, and yet he manages to spin my head over and over again in this conversation.
It’s incredible – and you’re really going to enjoy it.

E65: Cameron Rawson on The Secret Life of a DJ, Mental Health, Alcohol and more

E65: Cameron Rawson on The Secret Life of a DJ, Mental Health, Alcohol and more

On this week's episode of Life and Lessons, you're going to hear a conversation between me and Cameron Rawson.
Cameron is a DJ who has played venues across the length and breadth of the country.
But a year ago, his life was put on hold.
With clubs closed and events cancelled, everything Cameron came to accept as normal was thrown into question.
Cameron has some really interesting insights into the realities of the nightlife industry, and also an inspiring story of how he has used the past year positively.
In the next hour, you’re going to learn:

What really goes on behind the scenes in a nightclub Why DJs absolutely hate taking your requests The mental health implications of having a job that requires late nights, lonely travel, and one that encourages you to drink on the job And how a period of uncertainty such as a lockdown is a great opportunity to question everything you believe to be true, to make positive changes in your life
    and more.
