Make Meals Matter is a movement to eradicate hunger, formed by a few 7th-grade students. Out of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, we have chosen goal 2- zero hunger- as our main goal. We want to tackle zero hunger, by providing healthy, nourishing, vegetarian meals to the underprivileged, especially to children and provide families in slum areas with food supplies.

Food is not a privilege, it is a right.

Our First Trip To The Orphanage

Our First Trip To The Orphanage

We, The Hunger Helpers, have adopted a village orphanage in Titwala, on the outside of Mumbai. We plan to give them MMM Food Packages containing staple food supplies every month.

When we reached the orphanage, all the children were very well disciplined. After they ate breakfast (each child finished everything on their plate #zerowasteage), everyone had their own responsibilities, like washing the dishes or clearing the mats.

We introduced ourselves to one other, we talked about what we wanted to be when we grow up. The orphans had big dreams and aspirations. They all were very confident and spoke about their dreams with stars in their eyes. Most of the boys aspire to join the India Army and the girls aspire to join the police force.🤩

While interacting with them, we all were laughing and learnt so much from each other.

We gave the orphanage MMM Food Packages, about 140 kgs of groceries. We also gave them our pre-loved clothes, bags and accessories and a few treats. We taught them how to grow their own microgreens (something we learnt in our last year's GSL project @growfresh_eatfresh). We also taught our new friends to regrow the leftover seeds from their chopped vegetables. It was very interactive and engaging for all of us.

Before leaving we played and danced with them. They all were very talented, showcasing their skills very proudly.

This trip taught us so much. We all should be grateful for everything we have. It was truly a heartwarming experience and it's something we will never forget.

    First Food Drive

    First Food Drive

Our first food drive was highly inspirational for us hunger helpers. It was a beautiful experience of feeding the needy, we were so glad that we got to view their expressions, reactions and helpful responses. We reached the Worli slum, and in the blink of an eye, there were long lines formed, with huddling people. We collaborated with the Robin Hood Food Army. The volunteers helped us organize the people in lines and avoid chaos. The boxes contained food staples like rice, pulses, lentils, sugar, salt and oil. With the help of a truck, we were able to feed 200 people, a months supply of food staples. That translates to 6000 meals. Those wonderful faces are impossible to forget and their willingness motivates me to do more good deeds. As their jollity and felicity bring us contentment!

    The Start

    The Start

We believe that a world without people facing hunger every day can positively impact our economies, health, education and equality. Even a small gesture like giving a few fruits adds to some nourishment and knowing that I brought a smile on a someones face; that's reward enough. We feel very strongly about eliminating hunger and firmly believe that food is a right, not a privilege. It is never too early or late to make a change.
