Tayto Park Episode
Hadn’t heard this podcast before and thought hey, I like theme parks, this could be worth a listen. I saw there’s a two hour episode on Tayto Park which surprised me because you could probably experience all of tayto park in that amount of time. As a theme park, it’s, well, probably a nice day out for a family but not exactly world class. It’s in Ireland and so am I. I don’t know where to begin. Well, I guess I’ll begin with the opening of the episode where somehow they spend a loooooong time each trying out irritating and kind of offensive accents. We’re used to hearing Americans (I have no issue with Americans, lived there for 6 years and people are generally great) do that and it’s just weird, and when you think about it rude. I. Ant imagine you’d open an episode with everyone putting on exaggerated Chinese or African accents for an extended period but hey. I listened anyway to hear what they thought of the park because it I thought it could be pretty funny. But they haven’t been to the park. But they had a look at the website. Then they made some jokes about the IRA and a civil war that killed a couple of thousand people in what is living memory for a lot of people here. Then had a stab at some mythology. Oh, and the famine. Sure why not. I know what you’re thinking. The famine! Too soon? Of course not but still, it wouldn’t bother me if it was in any way funny or if there was any accurate information in the podcast which is TWO HOURS long. I mean, print off a Wikipedia page or two. In fairness, there was a bit of information about Mr Tayto himself. It wasn’t very funny but it was about the evolution of his design. The sad thing is Mr Tayto and Tayto Park are ripe for comedy. Perhaps if they listened back to the 2 hour conversation that they had and picked their favourite parts and put those parts into a 30 min podcast and doubled the amount of research beforehand to, I’m guessing, an hour it could be alright. Oh and less of the offensive accents, jokes about terrorism and genocide/famine, unless they are funny. I hope Mr Tayto never hears this. It takes a lot to upset a potato but . . .
