The Donna Noble Chronicles: The Runaway Bride (2006) with Clayton from 'Men Who Like Men Who Like Movies'

The Donna Noble Chronicles: The Runaway Bride (2006) with Clayton from 'Men Who Like Men Who Like Movies'

Clayton from 'Men Who Like Men Who Like Movies' joins Sean for a brand new side-series.

The Donna Noble Chronicles will explore every Doctor Who episode which starred Catherine Tate as Donna, from 'The Runaway Bride' to 'The End of Time'.

    Discussion Points:

-Catherine Tate's career before she joined Doctor Who.

-Donna Noble's character in her first appearance.

    -The fantastic cold opening.

-The reason for the absence of Bernard Cribbins.

-The cut scene regarding Rose Tyler.

-Clayton says highway, and Sean immediately corrects him.

-The comedic-pairing of David Tennant and Catherine Tate.

    -'Save the Cat Moments'.

    -Donna's decision to walk away.

    Raised Questions:

    -How long ago was 2006?

-Was Donna Noble slightly too 'over-the-top' or 'pitch perfect' in her first appearance?

-Who would be happy being ripped out of their wedding day?

    -Is Sean re-treading old ground?

-Did you know Donna wasn't meant to come back?

    -Are you over Doomsday yet?

-Did you notice the Bridget Jones reference?

-Is a new flavour Pringle really that exciting?

-Do you want someone to make it snow for you?

Shout-out to Cinnamon Toast Crunch, who joined Sean for a YouTube Livestream discussing Doctor Who Series Four.

    Random Recommendations:

    -The Catherine Tate Show (2004-2009).

Sean is joined once again by guests Stew from 'Stew World Order' and Kevin and Erin from 'The Podcast That Wouldn't Die' to continue the LL Cool J series!

-The CGI that has aged like milk.

    -Adults acting like teenagers.

    -Cheesy 90's dialogue.

-Dramatic American News versus understated British News.

-The film trope of insulting the owner of the company that you work for.

-The character with science on the brain, but lust in their eyes.

    -Smoking rules in the lab.

-The sheer amount of company negligence on show here.

-Only one single Floppy disks copy for this multi-million dollar research.

    Raised Questions:

-How hasn't Stew seen this before?

    -Was LL Cool J under-used?

-Did you know Thomas Jane actually swam with sharks?

    -What happened to Renny Harlin?

-What is the earliest you've ever turned up for a podcast recording?

    -Who's Scott?

    -Does red wine attract sharks?

-Who brings a teddy on a boat?

-Why don't Americans believe the TV weather report?

-Did you know Saffron Burrows was actually English?

-Was Samuel L. Jackson "Way too chill"?

-Why does every shark film take time to tell us that sharks don't like the taste of humans?

-Is this film really about the power of thought?

-How does a shark sneak in a corridor and turn on an oven?

-Did you want the omelette recipe?

-How uneven is the shift rota?

-Is this film "damn near perfect", "fun nonsense" or "Turner & Hooch but with a parrot"?

Stew, Erin and Kevin will be back to review Mindhunters (2004) or Shark Night (2009).

The Guns of Navarone (1961) with Mark

The Guns of Navarone (1961) with Mark

Sean is joined by his mate Mark to discuss one of Mark's favourite films: The Guns of Navarone (1961); One of the best adventure films ever made.

    It gets very philosophical.

    Discussion Points:

-Mark was also introduced to older films by his Dad.

-The strength of every single character.

-Mark was impressed by the set-up of the film.

-The brilliant scene with the exhausted, battered Royal Air Force (RAF) Bomber Command pilots.

-The lack of vilification for those making the difficult, near-impossible decisions in wartime.

-The challenge of having morals in war.

-The Oscar-winning special effects and how well they hold up.

-The personal conflict between the characters, particularly Mallory and Franklin.

-Sean's terrible note-taking returns (because he enjoys the film so much).

-The myth of the 'clean' Wehrmacht.

-The sheer insanity of war and the sheer insanity of trying to apply rules to it.

    -The iconic traitor scene.

-Dispensing with airs and graces in wartime.

-Sean prefers matte paintings to terrible CGI.

-The best lift scene in cinema.

    -Surprising Wallace and Gromit trivia.

-The bittersweet climax of the film.

    Raised Questions:

-Does your Dad influence your taste in films?

-What happened to writing in films?

-Why did they 'bin off' the first Director?

-Why Stanley Baker took such a small part?

-Did you know they cast a pop singer?

-Can you win the war but lose yourself in the process?

-Can the whole machine function with a faulty piece?

-What is one of the most over-used sounds in film history?

-Who stepped on the Birthday Cake?

-Did you know 'rat' incendiaries were actually used in the Second World War?

-Why don't they make films like this anymore?

    Mark's Recommendations:

-Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022).

    -Pork Chop Hill (1959).

    Shout-outs:

    -The Decision Reel podcast.

Titanic Myths and Mistakes with Paul from 'History Rage'

Titanic Myths and Mistakes with Paul from 'History Rage'

Paul from the awesome History Rage podcast joins Sean to discuss Titanic film myths and mistakes.

In a reversal from his usual hosting duties, where he listens to historians rage, Paul let's rip on Titanic (1997) describing it as:

"The barely remembered, mostly made-up, bewildered ramblings of an incredibly wealthy woman who is trying to remember back to what happened 80 years ago".

    Discussion Points:

-The shedload of myths which are crow-barred into Titanic films.

-Sean still isn't happy with Julian Fellowes (2012) Titanic.

    -The myths surrounding third-class passengers.

    -The misconceptions of Edwardian Society.

-The portrayal of First Officer Murdoch.

    -The trope of "evil Ismay".

-The myth around the Titanic and it's speed.

-Titanic (1943), the film made by the National Socialist Dictatorship of Germany. It is dreadful.

    Raised Questions:

-Do you pray for Titanic (1997) to end once the ship sinks?

-Did you know about the Quarantine rules onboard transatlantic ships in 1912?

-Would you rather see Sean working as a seamstress?

-Why doesn't Ruth DeWitt Bukater marry someone else?

-Do you agree with Paul, that Titanic is vapid sh*te?

-Did A Night to Remember (1958) do a better love story than Titanic (1997)?

-Is cutting your mother's toenails a better use of your time than watching Titanic (1943)? Spoiler, yes it is.
