E1 Jamie Banfield talks about Mindful Design

E1 Jamie Banfield talks about Mindful Design

The Gritty Pursuit of Building Better.
    This is Jamie Banfield.
Hello, If you know anything about me you know I have a passion for textures, function and sustainable design, and at JBD we often uses reclaimed materials, explore the unknown and have a unique perspective, for function and savvy ways to save both time and budgets for our clients. Recognized by the National Kitchen and Bath Association as one of the industry’s top 30 Under 30 in North America, One to Watch by Western Living Magazine, and a Finalist for the Robert Ledingham Memorial - Emerging Designer Of The Year Award instills confidence that we are exactly where we should be; fully emerged in the design and constrain world. Our work can be seen in private residences throughout Canada and we are thankful for the trust these clients place in our team. Formally trained in interior design, with a complementary background in construction and custom millwork, adds an experience of understanding of the total design process for each unique project. What is your design style? A common question, as a transplant to Canada and the Pacific North West from a Costal village in Wales, the United Kingdom at the age of eleven I fell in love with the my new West Coast surroundings and over the years you can find a flair of inspiration from these surroundings in most of our completed residential projects.
While I will not be quitting my day job as the principal designer at JBD, I tend to lend my talent to televise outlets, design publication, lifestyle talk shows such as: Global TV, CTV, Vancouver, CTV Edmonton, CTV Calgary and That Talk Show just to name a few. I frequently share my design advice as a design and construction speaker on stages for trade and consumer events such as: The International KBIS Show, Interior Design Show of Western Canada, BC Home + Garden Show, Vancouver Home + Design Show, Edmonton Renovation Show, Edmonton Home + Garden Show, Edmonton Fall Home Show, Calgary Home + Design Show, Calgary Renovation Show.

    This is Postmark.
We are a team of passionate people who believe that there is a better way to build homes. We have one simple goal – to Build Cool Shit. We see an opportunity to make the construction industry better. We are not just providing a space for people and businesses to inhabit. We are providing vibrant, energetic spaces where they can thrive. Where productivity & mental well-being are increased. We understand that our end-users want to experience life to the fullest, and we are determined to help achieve that goal.
Have you ever wondered why being stuck inside leaves you feeling cooped up and anxious? Having the feeling that you need to escape on weekends just to go for a walk? We’ve only lived in a built environment for a short period of time, and as humans, we have not evolved to thrive in these enclosed spaces.
In a modern world where space is limited and housing is focused on building density, we’re seeing liveability decrease. Houses today are built with only profit in mind. Every additional feature just adds to a list of sales points, and does not increase liveability or enjoyment. Our objective is to create spaces that maintain density, while not decreasing liveability. In other words, we are building spaces you will want to live in and bring back the essential connection to nature we have lost.
In the same way that the sound of a river calms you or the crackling of a fire visually captivates you, as humans we naturally crave connection to nature. But, we can’t all live in the forest. The question is how do we bring nature into our spaces? The answer is using biophilic practices through Mindful Design.
Its definition is in its name. Mindful Design is being mindful of the human experience, community impact, and environmental aspects when building spaces.
