As usual, Ricky Gervais stirs the pot, and laughs hysterically at his handiwork as Steve and Karl go at each other's looks and perceived character defects. Ricky will often prompt Karl to consider Steve's physical appearance, which inevitably leads Karl on an unintentionally hilarious tangent. Steve tends to pick on Karl for his laziness and antisocial behavior.
