That Grief Relief Podcast with Katie Overy is a light-hearted series chatting about all things grief and why it's ok to have a laugh in the process!

Katie delves into why grief seems to be such a taboo subject and, why when she makes a joke about her dead parents, does everything turn a bit awkward?!

Hopefully bringing a little ‘light relief to the grief’, this series is not here to offend or dampen moods… it’s here to put a smile on your face and just maybe, help you along the way, whether you’re going through something right now or not.

    Ep. 32 - James McKinnon

Last year, James was told he had approximately 18 months left to live due to, the absolute b*tch that is, cancer.  So what did he decide to do?  He held his own funeral and #fakewake… an event he simply did not want to miss out on!

In one of the most incredible, and weirdly funny, episodes I’ve recorded, James talks me through the emotions he felt when he was told he was going to die, he tells me what we need in the event of a zombie apocalypse and we briefly develop a new reality game show, Cancer Factor, that we don’t think will ever be given the green light!

Ep. 31 - Jody Day from Gateway Women

Ep. 31 - Jody Day from Gateway Women

Jody, aka the 'Beyonce' of childless women, was just brilliant from the very start.  As always, I knew nothing of her story, her journey or her disenfranchised grief, but she kindly shared all.  Including why she's childless as opposed to child-free and her mission to helps other by creating Gateway Women.

Oh if you were born after say 1990 and/or are not from the UK, I would recommend Googling "Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen" ahead of time!

    Ep. 30 - Joe Bellman

    Ep. 30 - Joe Bellman

When he was 19, Joe lost his Mum after an 11 year battle with cancer.  He was a bit lost and confused, so googled how to cope with the loss of a parent.  Discovering that there wasn’t a huge amount available for young people, Joe decided to start his own podcast, giving young people a place to talk and share their stories.

As much as I love Joe for the good things he’s doing for young people in the grief community, I do question his life choices as I discover during this episode that he legitimately likes ‘Parma Violet’ sweets… shocking!  We also covered our lack of London geography knowledge, Tom Cruise and the perfect #QOTD.

    Ep. 29 - Emma Ward aka @thegirlwithgrief

    Ep. 29 - Emma Ward aka @thegirlwithgrief

Emma & I ‘met’ on Instagram and I was instantly drawn to how open she was with her story (and how wonderfully aesthetic her Instagram account is, not jealous at all!)

Emma was just 15 when her mum died suddenly and far too soon; she was just 42 years old.  Emma, with a very level head on her relatively young shoulders, decided she was going to be strong for the whole family.  This was all going swimmingly until she went to uni and things came crashing down.  Emma took her coping mechanism from drinking to journaling to blogging to starting a podcast and she can now say that she’s actually fine instead of just pretending to be fine!

    Ep. 28 - Nadim Safieddine

    Ep. 28 - Nadim Safieddine

I was connected with Nadim on LinkedIn (how professional are we?!) as he writes a lot about his grief journey after suffering big losses as a young adult.  We covered plenty of topics; TikTok, moving countries, FRIENDS, 'adulting', therapy, Les Mills, blogging, Costa vs Starbucks, oh and of course dead parents!

Nadim was so easy to talk to, so much so that a couple times in this episode the podcast-er became the podcast-ee and he was the one asking all the questions!  Another great episode (even if I do say so myself!), but of course that’s all down to my guests being so brill!

    Ep. 27 - Crystal Drake

    Ep. 27 - Crystal Drake

Okay, first off… we had a few Zoom issues, so please bear with it :) I approached Crystal via Instagram as she was so open about her grief.  I was taken back slightly as she was sooooo excited because she said she has been trying to share her story for years… even on TikTok like all the cool kids do!
Crystal has experienced so much grief; she has lost many loved ones including her estranged mother, she watched her grandmother suffer terribly with Alzheimer's and she also had to have a hysterectomy at the age of 35!  All this and Crystal is still this wildly bright, fun and vibrant person that wants to help others and the world needs more people like that!
