A true fan’s podcast
This is a wonderful series, both for the hardcore horror fan, and for someone just dipping their toe into the water. The week by week, “spoiler-ific” approach can be listened to just for fun, but really rewarded those who have watched the films in advance - done their homework, as it were - and gives a genuine education into not just genre cinema, but the history in cinema more broadly. It’s hard to say what’s best about the series, as it offers so much, but I’d flag two aspects I’ve particularly enjoyed. Firstly, the conversations about the films really enhance the enjoyment after watching. The discussion of Hereditary, for example, was precisely what I needed immediately after watching that unique film - it felt like I was participating in a discussion over a drink in the pub beside the cinema just after emerging, shaken, from the screen. But, above all else, I think, it’s Mike’s wonderful and endearing combination of humility and enthusiasm when talking about the films - even the dodgy ones - with the guests that continues to draw me in. My favorite podcast, and long may it continue.
A recent discovery!
I only stumbled upon this podcast during the pandemic. What a find. It’s probably my favourite horror pod. I’m still working my through the back catalogue. Mike and his guests are always passionate, knowledgeable, insightful and likeable. I’ve discovered some real gems and gained a new understanding of some old faves.
Thanks so much to everyone involved. You’ve made dog walks & cycles to work far more entertaining than they have a right to be.
New horror fan
Never considered myself a horror movie fan... until now. I'm still learning about the genre but what a fun journey of discovery it has been! This podcast is very easy to listen to while also thought provoking. Very interesting guests give lots of insight into classic and newer movies. A massive kudos to Mike for running the show with honesty and integrity.
