The Ultimate Hammer Deep Dive
As a devotee of physical media, I love the idea of a podcast series that can functionally replicate the experience of diving into the extra features of a special edition of a movie, learning about all the production ins-and-outs, the background, the creatives involved, tangential trivia as well as intelligent analysis of the film itself and how it fits into the body of work (in this case of a film studio), in a way untrammelled by the vagaries of film licensing and distribution.
While it would obviously be nice to have a ‘complete’ Hammer films boxed set on blu-ray or similar, that is very unlikely to happen, due to the way Hammer produced and licenced their films for distribution, and so this may be as close to a boxed set as we will get, and following along with each film before listening to the excellent analysis and additional information brings a depth of understanding to the story of a British film studio across the 20th century that wouldn't otherwise be possible.
It’s also very witty, informative and has one of the greatest opening themes to anything (podcast, tv, radio, anything) ever! All the more reason to drop by the House of Hammer, tell them I sent you.
