    Today I have a Clinical Psychologist and both a Diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine and a Fellow of The American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Michael J. Breus, Ph.D. He was one of the youngest people to have passed the Board at age 31 and, with a specialty in Sleep Disorders, is one of only 168 psychologists in the world with his credentials and distinction. Dr. Breus is on the clinical advisory board of The Dr. Oz Show and is a regular contributor on the show (35+ times).
    Dr. Breus is the author of the new book The Power of When, (September 2016) his third book ( #1 at Amazon for Time Management and #1 in Happiness, #28 overall) which is a ground breaking bio-hacking book proving that there is a perfect time to do everything, based on your hidden biological chronotype.     Sleep deprivation is different for everybody. It’s a personalized situation. If you feel sleep-deprived, then you are. If you fall asleep within five minutes of hitting the pillow, then you have sleep deprivation. It should be a 10-15 minute process to get there. Hitting the snooze button more than once is sleep deprivation. Irregular bedtimes can cause sleep deprivation. What happens when your body is sleep-deprived? Cortisol increases. Appetite increases. Hormones will start to play a significant role. Ghrelin: increases hunger – this hormone will increase. Leptin: makes you feel full – it decreases by 15%. You will eat anything you can get your hands on. The most natural solution is not to be sleep-deprived. [17:15] The Importance of Melatonin
    When cortisol is high, melatonin is low. Melatonin is the key that starts the engine for sleep. You cannot sleep without melatonin being active and onboard.     Celebrity trainer, entrepreneur, and author, Thomas DeLauer. Thomas was hyper-focused on his business… a successful business at that, but he was afraid to step away or divert in any way towards anything else. As a result he was overweight. The only thing that getting healthy would do would shift time away from what mattered to him most (money and providing for his family).
    He had the hard-wiring to be excellent at both physical performance and business… They could complement each other. He became obsessed with homing in on exactly what made him an excellent businessperson. Thomas applied discipline and knowledge to his health and made some promises to himself. In a rather short amount of time, he went from being 280 lbs to 185 lbs and on the covers of some of the largest health and fitness magazines in the world. Now, he writes for some of the largest fitness publications in the world as an expert in diet, nutrition, and mindset.
    Thomas became a coach after he knew that he could provide what was needed to get the world’s best businesspeople the results that they need to be a better spouse, feel better, perform better, and increase their bottom line. The best part is so much of this can be done without dramatically changing your life, and seeing the optimization take place in his clients is sincerely the reason he continues to do this.
    Nowadays, Thomas lives in Santa Barbara, CA with his wife, four dogs, and three horses. They enjoy an active, outdoor life that allows them to optimize every aspect of their lives.

    Thomas stepped out of his corporate role and committed his life to the fitness industry. His story is fantastic, so he was able to get on the cover of magazines. However, Thomas realized the fitness industry was all about looks. How you look should only be a reflection of how you feel on the inside. Thomas realized he needed to bridge the gap between health and fitness. The fitness industry dropped Thomas because he was no longer speaking about what they wanted to hear. When Facebook changed their algorithms, Thomas decided to work on YouTube to get his message out. If you put a YouTube video out, people will be able to find it for years.     LDL and chemicals will pool up in your blood and cause damage. Our gut is a fragile ecosystem. When our lipopolysaccharides get into the bloodstream, they create a world of hurt. If you have heard of leaky gut, then you know what Thomas is talking about. When you are inflamed, your gut cells will become inflamed. Your gut will become weak and disrupted. They will block your ability to process glucose. Eventually, it leads to insulin resistance, which will lead to weight gain.     01:45 The skin is very elastic. Our skin cells regenerate every 28 days. The loose skin will adjust, but it can take months to years.
    02:30 Tip Number 1: Master cortisol and insulin. Insulin resistance is when you have resistance at the cellular level to insulin. Excess insulin depletes amino acids which can contribute to excess skin. This is where keto can be so powerful. If you are new to keto, watch this video.
    04:45 Tip Number 2: Eliminate sugar and alcohol. Don’t combine protein and sugar because of glycation. The browning of an apple.
    06:01 Tip Number 3: Build lean muscle. When you do this, the appearance of excess skin will be significantly reduced. Focus on these 5 movements, and do them often. Squats, push ups, shoulder press, lunges, deadlifts. These movements will fix loose skin around the neck, stomach, chin, back and overall body. This is great for tightening loose skin after pregnancy.
