Episode 59- Can Memphis go on a winning streak‪?‬ Tigers in 20: A Memphis Tigers Athletics podcast

    • Basketball

In episode 59 of Tigers in 20, lead writer and host Christian Fowler and GoTigers247 founder Brooks Hansen discuss the latest in Memphis Tigers basketball and football.
To begin the episode, Fowler and Hansen discuss the Tigers two-point victory over UCF on Wednesday night. Although it wasn't a perfect game for Memphis, they came away with the victory, which is all that really mattered.
Memphis was on a two-game losing streak heading into the matchup against the Knights, so it really did feel like a must-win game.
With the UCF game now behind them, Memphis coach Penny Hardaway and the Tigers desperately need to string some wins together.
Fortunately for Memphis, they have a three-game home stretch coming up against UConn, Temple and USF. All three of those game are very winnable, and the Tigers would be sitting at 18-5 and 7-3 in the AAC if they could win the next three.
Fowler and Hansen detail what Memphis needs to do to put together a winning streak, including continuing to get solid play from Lance Thomas and Boogie Ellis.
After discussing the UCF game and the next three home games, Hansen takes a look at how similar this season is to Josh Pastner's second season. Pastner brought in a top-five recruiting class, but Jelan Kendrick left before playing in any meaningful games much like James Wiseman.
The parallels are honestly pretty shocking, and it shows that the expectations may have been too high for Memphis this season after Wiseman announced he was leaving.
To end the episode, Fowler and Hansen discuss expectations for the team and Hardaway, and they also quickly take a look at how Memphis is making a great case for five-stars Greg Brown and Jalen Green.
