S2 E7: FAREWELL LISTENERS - Compilation of great Irish business minds

We have arrived at our destination, having had many learnings along this wondrous and expanding journey. The final episode of 'Where the needle lands', an Idiro Analytics podcast series, asks you our listener, "Where does your needle land now that you are more informed and thought provoked by our guests who are industry leading lights?" Having achieved the #1 spot often was worthy of back clapping but the real triumph and satisfaction came in the form of observing listeners opening up to a discussion on the impact of technology, AI and the possible future of technology in all our respective lives and our own responsibility in the evolution of tech user experience. ‘Where the needle lands’ set out to make the tech discussion more accessible to all and therefore debatable and idea processing. Achieving that and getting the channels of communication open and flowing was a reward in and of itself. We would like to express our gratitude to Idiro Analytics for their constant support. A huge thank you to all our guests, each of our followers and listeners for contributing to the podcast's great success, covering topics such as taking responsibility, team playing, leadership, purpose, digital transformation, 5G, data privacy and sovereignty, sustainability, DE&I, data sharing and AI ethics. When listening to this episode, which is a compilation of quotations from each and everyone of our guests, with the resulting juxtaposition of mind sets and varying perspectives, will allow you to sum up for yourself, where your needle has landed on your map! Enjoy and thank you. S2 E6: PEOPLE ARE TO IRELAND WHAT CHAMPAGNE IS TO FRANCE - with Padraic White, former IDA MD

S2 E6: PEOPLE ARE TO IRELAND WHAT CHAMPAGNE IS TO FRANCE - with Padraic White, former IDA MD

Padraic White, former MD of IDA Ireland, the agency dealing with foreign direct investment, speaks with us colourfully on the hows and the whys of the global tax reform, the new corporate tax regime and how Ireland played a leading and pivotal role in securing the alignment of the 139 OECD countries to support a global 15% corporate tax rate. The evolution of Ireland's low corp tax regime is covered by giving a social historical account of a 1950s Ireland at 0% to 12.5% nearly 70 years on, and how it impacted and benefited the commercial and cultural landscape of Ireland to becoming and being one of the top 5 economies in the world.
While Ireland's competitive and envy-inducing success in having a low corporate tax is a tool to maintain and continue to encourage FDI, however, our ever evolving and enriched 'People' of Ireland are a super pull in itself. “People are to Ireland, what Champagne is to France and oil to Texas”. A very succinct and dot-joining episode on all the recent tax related media making headlines, covering corp tax rates, tax havens, Apple and all that money sitting in the escrow orchard, to the politics at play and the power of our small nation in the global arena and its impact on Irish society and those joining our society.

S2 E4: THE FUTURE OF TECHNOLOGY IS HUMAN AFTER ALL - with John Walsh, CTO, Fujitsu Ireland

In today's episode, we are speaking with John Walsh, CTO of Fujitsu Ireland, where they promote a Human Centric Intelligent Society, meaning the key emphasis being that people are placed first and then the technology design. We learn how the Japanese company has its particular approach to doing business. John also talks of how an optimised integration approach is the force that enables tech companies to leverage what is already available and possibly avoid needless large capital investment. What is hyperconnectivity all about and do we really need to be end to end connected as a society? And the extension of 5G to 5GE. There has never been a more exciting time in history where ICT is concerned, for eg. where large scale complex medical research can be completed in days rather than years now. As tech grads qualifications transcend all borders in the world, John gives tips on the winning formula for employee retention and the traits he looks for in the workplace and ‘diversity of mindsets’ being one, because “When the only tool that you have is a hammer - every problem looks like a nail."

Padraic White

Well done guys – thank you for this. Padraic White – a highly influential former CEO of the IDA and a man perfectly positioned to provide a comprehensive overview of where we’ve come from as a national economy, and where we’re going. A concise yet comprehensive account of the evolution of the key contribution of FDI to the enormous expansion of the Irish economy, especially since the 1970s. Along the way, he provides detailed and illuminating insights into the internal operations of the IDA, the agency which has set the gold standard which others throughout the world are now following. Still very active and with his finger on the pulse, he also points the way to where Ireland needs to go in this critical period, especially in the area of AI. Highly informative, and well worth listening to. Having experienced a significant amount of frustration, during 25 years of lecturing on the Irish economy, at the lack of public knowledge, both on the key role of FDI and the extraordinary work of the IDA, I hope your podcast finds a wide audience.

Storytelling: Fascinating way of showing the impact of Analytics and AI

Big Thank You for all the efforts, the ideas and the knowledge sharing you brought to the Podcasts. I like the fact that your guests have different backgrounds and you tackled the interviews with different perspectives; while focusing on delivering the same key message: the impact of Analytics and AI.

1-For the interview with Padraic White: I have to acknowledge that I have learned a lot about the history of Technology and AI in Ireland and the expected future. I was glad that he has mentioned Microsoft as an example of the organizations that are investing a lot in the AI field. Being not Irish, I didn’t know much about the phases that Dublin went through to become a Technological Hub. Also, how Padraic White is expecting that AI will be the main focus in the new five years Strategy for Ireland!
2-For the interview with Dr. Joan Cahill: You took a different approach! You have added at the beginning of the interview a short story about yourselves that has added a nice personal flavour to the Podcast. I really like this story piece because it sticks easily to the people ‘minds. In general, during Podcasts, the interviewers focus on their guests. But I believe that when the audience know more about the interviewers themselves as well, their personalities and their stories, that would help us to know more about you and would encourage us to follow whenever you publish a new Podcast. Also, the summary part at the end (the take away), it is so good to focus as there was a lot of valuable information shared during the Podcast.

Wish you all the best in this journey and mission!

Refreshing Leadership Centric Conversation

I really enjoyed these podcasts. The conversation is informal and probing. The informal introduction is a great “ease in” and the summary at the end serves to underscore the key points. Normally I would see AI as a pure tech play but including topics such as leadership, diversity, business analytics makes for an interesting listen.
