    Embrace The 'Can Do' Trajectory

    Embrace The 'Can Do' Trajectory

If we’re not getting our questions right, we’re not going to empower young people to create astonishing answers. This is why we’re shifting from framing questions of challenges around ‘problems’ to ‘solve this’.

Subtle, but important. And puts us all on the front ‘can do’ foot rather than the back foot of ‘it’s all crappy and we can’t do anything about it.’ Because that’s NOT how this is going to play out, people…
    -
We’re partnering with creative college, DV8!!! We're inviting young people from the college to create film responses to our 4 BIG questions for upcoming ThinkNation at Brighton Digital Festival.

Why? Because if we empower young people and give them the opportunities and the framework to DO STUFF, THEY WILL!!!

We have a new member of our Advisory Board! Meet Professor Ruth Blakeley. Not only is she Professor of Politics and International Relations at the University of Sheffield.

The Value of Patience, Perspective and Perserverance

The Value of Patience, Perspective and Perserverance

WHAT WE'VE LEARNT: COMMUNICATION is key. Obvious. But more to the point, human communication matters - talking, being in the same space. Obviously, this is in ADDITION to the Slack’s and other such tools, but think this human element will play out more and more in coming years (PLUS I didn’t add to the vlog potential positive impact Voice COULD have… if we get it right).

WHAT WE’VE DONE: Cross-pollination of my OTHER podcast with Brandon Relph, called “The Z-X Spectrum”. Last week’s episode (see links below) focused on young people and work - it was an interesting discussion, especially if we need to help young people understand the value of PATIENCE, PERSPECTIVE & PERSEVERANCE.

WHAT WE’RE DOING: We’re putting on a special ThinkNation as part of Brighton Digital Festival, and we’re looking for mentors. We’ll be bringing young people & mentors together to help create stories/talks/responses to 4 BIG questions.

    Be Good To Your Word

    Be Good To Your Word

Going out on a bit of a limb for this vlog. WEEKS and WEEKS ago I said I would answer a few questions on scaling a creative company/getting investment for filmmaker Ivon Skula. But I didn't. So I'm doing it here. I also explain why I've taken so long, but don't excuse myself.

    WHAT WE'VE LEARNED:
Be good to your word (and make amends when you fail). So this vlog is for you Ivon - hope it helps. ALSO be good to get other people's views on her questions - sure they'll differ from mine - so please share in comments.

    WHAT WE'VE DONE:
Got out our first podcast "The Z-X Spectrum" with Brandon Relph - we explored all things Love Island: the good, the bad, and the philosophical...

    WHAT WE'RE DOING:
As part of our upcoming event for Brighton Digital Festival, we're working with students from Brighton's creative college, DV8. They'll be creating short films in response to our BIG questions - on how tech can positively impact on homelessness, housing, mental health and sea pollution.

We Need To Celebrate Other People’s Successes

We Need To Celebrate Other People’s Successes

Hello! In this week’s I cover:

    1: WHAT WE'VE LEARNT:
Sharing is caring - and that’s something I need to be doing far more of. We’re all in this crazy world together and there is strength in shining a light on great stuff, and supporting when other’s are experiencing hard times. But it’s more than that - we need to smash silos and learn from each other from all industries and professions: what work’s, what doesn’t.

    2: WHAT WE'VE DONE:
More on Project Twist-It and the story behind how we got the music for our film from the band She Drew The Gun (it’s a simple tweet-tale…). I also cover how we’re developing our audio and re-appropriating our ThinkNation talks, discussions, documentaries through a brilliant podcast platform called Anchor. YOU SHOULD USE IT TOO!

    3: WHAT WE'RE DOING:
Heads up for an event I’m talking at in November - the Good Tech Conference, which is focusing the discussion around tech that can have an impact in reducing food and packaging waste,
and homelessness.

Worrying About The Future (Too Much) Can Impact Your Present

Worrying About The Future (Too Much) Can Impact Your Present

A short vlog this week (I blame the hot weather!) In the vlog I cover:

    1: WHAT WE'VE LEARNT:
We hear from our videographer, Rebecca, who explains that she's trying to learn not to worry too much about the future, because it's stopping her from being in the moment. And we're not talking 5 years ahead, we're talking 8 weeks. (I'm left wondering if many young people feel the same...)

    2: WHAT WE'VE DONE:
We've locked down an event for the Brighton Digital Festival in October, working with young people from diverse backgrounds - the communities that don't usually get involved in the tech community. MORE INFO TO FOLLOW.

    3: WHAT WE'RE DOING.
I'm starting a new podcast with Brandon Relph. Brandon in on our advisory board, and despite being so young (he's 18 in July) has a huge knowledge on digital marketing and young people's use of tech. We'll be launching the podcast later in the month...
