    Episode 12: Journey to UBC Master of Science in Kinesiology - Exercise Physiology - Nikol Grishin

    In this episode we discuss how Nikol Grishin is pursuing her Master of Science in Kinesiology program at UBC beginning in the Fall 2020 semester.
    Nikol is a recent UBC graduate with a Bachelor’s of Kinesiology with a specialty in Health Science. She explains how she obtained volunteer positions during her undergraduate degree as a Project Manager for Special Olympics BC, a private Physiotherapy Assistant, and a Research Assistant at the UBC Cognitive and Motor Learning Lab and at Vancouver Coastal Health.
    Not only did she work extensive hours as a volunteer, she was also this past year’s Kinesiology Undergraduate Society (KUS) President, and is currently a Lab Coordinator at FAST Lab and a Project Assistant at BC Children’s Hospital. She also gives advice for senior undergraduate students who are considering health and research fields.

    In this episode we discuss how Lois Lee navigated her undergraduate career to get accepted into the University of Toronto's Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MScOT) program, and how she has transitioned into working as an Occupational Therapist in Canada.
    Lois Lee completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University and her Master's of Science in Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto. During her time as a student, she accumulated a wealth of experience with volunteer roles such as events coordinator for UNICEF at SFU, a functional tester for Special Olympics BC, and the Occupational Therapy program rep on the University of Toronto’s Graduate Student’s Union. Leading up to her career as an OT, Lois has worked as a student Kinesiologist at West Point Grey Physiotherapy Clinic, Adaptive Ski Instructor for the Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports, Personal Trainer at SFU, Research Assistant at UBC in the department of Occupational Therapy, and program worker at the Developmental Disabilities Association.
    During her graduate program, she completed placements in Canada and abroad at 4 different organizations. Since graduating, she has discovered a passion for working with kids and is currently working as a pediatric OT at Footprints Therapy in Toronto.

    Andrew is a former NCAA Division II varsity football player who graduated with Honours in Biomedical Physiology from SFU. He has been working as a paramedic for over a year after receiving his Emergency Medical Responder Certification from the Justice Institute of BC. He explains how he was able to transition from the student athlete life to paramedic, and he also details what his application process was like as a successful candidate to get admitted into UBC’s Faculty of Medicine for the Fall of 2020.
