This time we had the good fortune to speak to the environmentalist and urbanist Alice Creasy who is based in Edinburgh, Scotland. With the climate conference COP26 in Glasgow currently ongoing we discuss the pressing matter of climate change and its relations to future urban life. We also discuss Alice’s experience in starting a research collective and try to figure out exactly how large an allotment is? This and more on this 8th episode.

This episode features our conversation with architect Claudia Muciño. She shares her experience working and living in Celaya, Mexico, a city with complex social dynamics. She tells us about her work in the urban development department and how she came to heritage conservation. We also get to hear about her favorite space in her city, other projects she is part of, and her expectations on future plans that can influence urban life in Celaya.

We’re back with a new episode of What Would Jane Do where Meghan McCollum of Blank Space Bham joins us to talk about her experience as a muralist and urbanist in Birmingham, Alabama in the United States. Meghan has applied her background in geography and urbanism so beautifully into her work. In October 2021 Blank Space Bham is hosing Magic City Mural Fest featuring seven women from Birmingham to Los Angeles who together with community partners will activate an alley in Woodlawn with public art and placemaking. We also spend some time talking to Meghan about her favorite space in Birmingham and hearing about her experience studying for her masters degree in London.

In this episode we are catching up with our friend Wafa Butmeh, an Urban Planner with UN Habitat in Palestine. She tells us about her work addressing violence against women in public spaces through urban design and she introduces us to her home of Battir, a small village near Bethlehem which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site thanks to the ancient Roman terraces nearby. We also get to hear a little about how she came to urban planning and design as well as some of the research she is doing independently, studying social mapping in communities.

Just before we all went into lockdown in March, we spoke with our friend Hannah Ratzlaff about her work as an Exterior Design Consultant with Main Street Arkansas within the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program. We chat about what it’s like learning architecture building by building, helping small business owners improve their space, and conceptual design can sometimes be misleading. As a newer resident of Little Rock Hannah also shared with us some of the spaces she’s been loving in the city and what makes her excited to live there.
